CALSTAR/REACH Air Ambulance BARF Membership

It also conflicts with my sort of wife’s birthday, but a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do. Plus, I booked this before we started going out and became a thing.

I don't have a "Get Out of Jail" card like that. Enjoy the trip! Don't be anywhere close to where an Indian rocket lands!! :teeth

I am going on BARFistan and have inquired with these guys do internationally. I will report back.

Yes, he will be back soon and is having so much fun and enjoying the ride. They have been riding 8 hours a day, experiencing new foods like yak. All the people are so friendly and treat them all like rock stars. They want to talk and ask questions, take photos and more photos of the riders. They go to the front of the line. Butch says that he knows why people that ride Pakistan want to go back again and again. I'm looking forward to us going to Vietnam next year and maybe to Pakistan.

From the Association of Air Medical Services website:

The No Surprises Act was a bill passed at the beginning of 2022 to protect individuals from receiving surprise medical bills in most cases. In short, Americans will no longer be held liable for out-of-network costs outside of their control.

I just found this additional information about air ambulances based on changes due to the 2022 "No Surprises Act"

For patients with private insurance coverage, the No Surprises Act bars air ambulance companies from billing people more than they would pay if the service were considered “in-network” with their health insurers. For patients with public coverage, such as Medicare or Medicaid, the government sets payment rates at much lower levels than the companies charge.

Since I have health insurance through work, anyone know whether I still need my CALSTAR/REACH membership?

Read your policy- not all cover air ambulance rides 1) at all 2) only a portion 3) all. Once you've determined that, give CALSTAR a call and double check the info.*

*keep in mind CALSTAR membership covers everyone under your roof- and I think kids away at school- insurance does not.

Aetna paid for an Enloe care evac from THill to Chico in 2023, 2024 but I have not checked for 2025.

I have heard Kaiser HMO covers air evac.

I've got full corporate Kaiser thru UC Berkeley (thanks, wife!) and CalStar/InReach because I'm a belt & suspenders guy. The cost is minimal and the benefit is priceless.
