Looking to get my new 3 series sedan wrapped in matte black. Looks like 2-3k depending on which shop I talk to and what stars the moon is aligned with. Anyone have any experience with shops that they would recommend or advise to stay away from?

South bay preferably

Check out West Coast Signz. My friend is the GM there and I know they do a lot of high end work for the local pro athletes. I think if you get the works, like door jambs and handles etc it'll be around $4k, but less if you skip the extras.

Not South Bay but a great shop - Vinyl Styles in San Carlos. I've talked about them before. Nothing but great experiences and I've had stripes done on my previous car and they carbon fiber wrapped my Shoei.

They do full wraps on everything, they have done a few Lambos and such.

Does the adhesives on the wraps harm the factory paint? I know who cares since its wrapped but isnt there a limited life on the wraps?

Talking to Lyle at Vinyl Styles he said that they do no harm to factory paint and the wraps can be removed at any time. A full wrap should last about as long as a professional paint job on a car, so he claims.

Cool...been thinking about doing my truck matte gray

I call bullshit, also the adhesive gets harder to remove as time goes on

Maybe this amg owner got the cheap vinyl? Probably did, being broke from maintaining the thing....

You sure that's a wrap? Looks like sanded primer.

Many of the flat colored cars you see may be Plasti-dipped. Some manufacturers are offering flat/satin finishes on certain models as well.

80% sure.
Looks like hammered shit to me

Might be plastidip

In didn't want to get too close in case its contagious

Ask him what brand he uses, and then check it with what the manufacture has to say. I can guarantee 3M and Avery do not carry any car wraps with a lifetime guarantee from fading or peeling. They are usually no longer than 7 years for the high end stuff.

Maybe he's using some magic vodoo, but maybe he's just trying to make a sale.

3M wrap material has different life "expectancy"

anywhere from 3-10 years.

Avery has an expected life of 3-12 years

All depends on what color and style you go with. CF, Chrome, Metallics wont last as long.

Most have a removable adhesive. If you have ever removed vinyl vs wrap material you will see the difference. Wrap material is much easier to remove.

First, to everyone replying "BULLSHIT!" I'm not claiming to be an expert. This is what the shop owner told me. I specified that in my post. Everyone can calm down, I'm just providing what little I know.

If you're going to spend several thousand dollars on a vinyl wrap, I suggest doing proper research that involves more than a forum post on BARF. Just my :2cents

Yeah, I'm going to agree that is doesn't look like a vinyl wrap.

He uses 3M if I remember correctly. A professional paint job will fade with time just as vinyl will. I think that is what he was getting at.

I call bullshit on that one.

Maybe so, I'm not an expert. I was told this by the owner.

$2-3k?

that is alot of money. I'd plastic dip it my self for $300

but then matte black is so played out.

Please punch yourself in the nuggets two or three times for me. At least it's just a BMW.

Matte black is the preffered color for everything until they invent something flatter and darker. :x

If you come to Sacramento let me know.. I have a friend who's shop has a specialist in wrapping race cars and things like that.

Can even do blue chrome if you're not set on matte black ;) lol
