cell phone blues

+1 on verizon

switched over when at&t (which started out quite good) started their death spiral, and still quite happy. Coverage is great (except my living room for some reason) as is customer service.

since most of our friends and family are on verizon (including a couple back east) most of our minutes are free in-network.

re analog - not sure its that big a deal anymore. I can't remember last time I needed it.

Later this month, I will be switching from cingular to Tmobile (paid $-75 to switch and get a Motorola RAZR :teeth).

I too had Cingular and bailed. T-Mobile is okay but I've been without a signal when folks I was with were making calls on Verizon.

Sorry you had a bad experience with T-Mobile babyjayty. T-Mobile has been very good to me in the customer service department. When I added two phones a couple of months ago I didn't include any text messaging. The salesperson told us that if we didn't read them, we wouldn't be charged. My Stepson is 16 and has a lot of friends that text. Even though he didn't read them, they still showed up on the bill.

The service rep a T-Mobile apologized for the misinformation we were given by sales and gave us 20 free text messages to use until things get sorted out.

That's not the first time they've been helpful, just the latest.

With AT&T, text messages are free to read and .10 to send. You can get unlimited text messaging for $4.25/mo.

so lots of people hate cingular. someone said the rollover minutes were a scam. anyhow, i have cingular, and i'm wondering what exactly about it sucks so hard. i'm not particularly unhappy, but if someone could clearly explain why cingular is bad, i'd want to switch providers. just curious...

116*7672*1000 nation wide(bdleep), the only prob. I ever had w/ sprint was turning it off; then they bought nextel(that week)...who I was switching to anyways. Coverage is pretty good unless you're in the battery(levi plaza SF which is kinda funny, I think it has to do w/ the old school blds w/ really thick walls).

I dont have any probs with them myself, but I also get 17% off as a UPS employee, which is nice.

You should just get one of these, only cost like $20 or so. And once you do, I wanna sell you the Golden Gate, extra cheap!

Ding ding ding! We have a winner here!

Imagine my surprise to find out that in Asia, all incoming calls to mobile phones are free. American mobile companies are fucking their consumers in the ass.

Europe as has free incoming as well.

I had a nextel for 4 years, and had no problems with them at all. I got a free incoming plan for only about 54 bucks a month. Free incoming calls, free long distance, free bleep bleep walky talky, and a whole bunch of stuff. The only problem with them that I could think about it the price for the phones, and most of them is teh ugli.

First off, T-mobile is a relatively new presence over in the west coast market. Many of their towers that they have here are leased from Cingular. It's no wonder people have so many issues with those two companies. They're almost mirrors of each other. I myself have Sprint which is almost a clone of Verizon. They both had CDMA technology and broadband internet. My reception is awesome with my new Samsung MM-A290 that I just bought. The advantage that Verizon has is that they absorbed a bunch of companies to make one. Hence, the reason they have the best coverage they amassed all those towers. Sprint however is an infant company not having been blessed with acquiring towers in a devouring of several companies. I can honestly say that I started out with them back in 1998. Left after three years and than went to AT+T for two years and than back to Sprint. Sprint has grown by leaps and bounds. It shows in their service that they really have added towers and no B.S.

Make sure you have the 64k chip in the s710A.

ALso, make sure you turn your phone on and off periodically. Preferably once a day/2 days.

on the turn off thing..... why? how long? anecdotal rule or manufacturer recomended?

other than keeping Exs from calling me at 4 am .....

I went the opposite direction. Once upon a time, I could get reception with MetroPCS in San Francisco so I moved to T-Mobile. Service was fine no problems. Then I moved to San Jose and T-Mobile didn't work at home or work so I ended my contract and bought a Razr though Cingular. Coverage is spotty at times and way too many "network busy" issues.

C'est la vie...

T-mobile just got booted off the Cingular network with the ATT merger.....expect T-mobile to suck ass very soon.

Verizon has the widest coverage in CA hands down. RE: the analog network - I only use it when I'm out in the boonies.....which is why Verizon is the only co. to get service at Sea Ranch and a lot of other "rural" areas. Cingular just started getting reception up at my aunt's place in Willow Creek....there's new tower there.

I use to work for cingular. The terms and conditions that they started with for the rollover mins changed since. I guess they have the rights to change terms and conditions with out telling you. Before, mins that you didn't use, each month expires individually after a year. But now, they group all the rollover mins together and it expires in chuncks. Try calling cingular customer serivce and you will know why people hate cingular.

My problem with cell phones is that they have all the fancy features (photos/video/internet), but when it comes down to the meat and potatos (making an actual phone call) they crap out. They should make them beable to call somebody b4 they make um take pictures........my .02
