Yeah WD40... make sure to wipe it off after using it to remove the grease...

Also don't just go spraying it on your wheel, spray it on a rag and then remove the grease.

Kerosene + $3 spray bottle from a hardware store.

Easy peasy, cheap, lemon squeezy.

K&N filter cleaner, it won’t damage O rings in the chain, plastic, or paint. I usually wash it right off.

Good ole gas is not only handy but one of the best chain grease cleaners... a little dab in a rag works wonder...

This is bad advice.

Gasoline, carb cleaner, brake cleaner, or harsh chemicals will cause the rubber to swell and eventually crack. Kerosene has negligible, if any, effects.

Negative... our bikes are engineered with rubber products that are not affected by hydrocarbons...

Currently we have products that are designed out of the new fluoroelastomer product known
commercially as Viton or Kalrez and reason are excellent Resistance to Drying Out

:dunno

You do you, plenty of research has shown negative effects and I'm not risking it.

thread is about cleaning lube off the bike, not the chain. stay on topic.

+1 to WD40. on painted parts, ill follow up with some fairing spray cleaner. for hard parts, maybe ill use Simple Green or Pinesol to clean any remaining residue.

WD-40 is great at cleaning off greasy gunk without damage. (Mineral spirits is stronger.) And WD40 lubricates. It seems almost perfect for this operation. Especially since I use it for chain grease in the first place. :laughing

Diesel is cheapest. Similar hydrocarbon chain lengths as kerosene and WD-40, and similarly effective solvent.

+2. If you found the chain cleaning threads, Kerosene is the cleaner most recommended.

As a disclaimer on the 'spray bottle kerosene' method...

I'd like to recommend NOT putting kerosene in a spray bottle. Nice and convenient, but spray bottles tend to create a bunch of micro-droplets that you can breath in... and kerosene is not something you want in your lungs.

I was spray cleaning some stuff in a dark setting with a head lamp one time, and couldn't believe how much kerosene started drifting around in the air. Ditched the spray bottle and grabbed a respirator for a little extra safety.
