I'm not seeing chainsaws for sale in CA anymore. Those 80V electric toys will not do the job.

Something that will take care of 100' fallen pines. Stihl? What size? 18" seems too small. I see a 25" sponsored for $859 - too much... Will be going to Az.

Any advice?

You can still buy gas saws in Ca they are the ones over 50cc. Most over 50cc are pro models which are expensive. The awesome thing about the pro models is they are noticeably lighter than homeowner/ranch models. But if you’re not going to use it very much it’s kinda wasted money. Lots of places up here in the SN foothills have them. An 18” bar will get you through a 35” dbh tree no problem. I would suspect that your 100’ pine is less than 35” dbh. If you’re close to Auburn I’d be happy to come to your place and make some sawdust out of that pine for you.

My local Ace sells Stihl saws. I have no need for a chainsaw but I always like to look at them 😆

There’s a saw shop in Penn Valley with a whole wall of gas chainsaws. Mostly Stihl. Hills Flat Lumber in Grass Valley sells gas Husqvarna saws.

see how much the rental yard charges locally . I have two the one with a 20" gets used a lot my big saw with 36" bar sits and get used a couple times a year but is really nice to have. i also only used the premixed gas in gallon containers last a long time and doesn't gum up the carb

I have the cutest Stihl ever.
went to the local stihl dealer to buy a small saw and pointed to one I thought would be good and he said " you don't want that, that's a chicks saw" went to the other dealer in town and he sold me the saw and said they were one of the most popular sizes because they were light and easy to handle. from that point on it was reffered too as the chick saw

There is no shortage of gas chain saws (Stihl, Husqvarna) in Arizona, bet its less expensive there too.

Husqvarna Ranchet 36” bar

Or the “my ego isn’t wrapped up in my bar size and I want the appropriate tool for buck branches and stuff around the yard.”

@tag3 has a couple of yuuuuuge saws for falling trees or cutting up big rounds.

multiple saws for multiple applications. but i kinda gotta lol at ‘chick saw’. what is this guy, like, 6 years old? but hey, wanna stick your fingers - or some other near and dear (very vulnerable) body part in it? no, i didn’t think so.

on second thought… trimming slim twigs… maybe the name is somewhat applicable.

Hey OP, I'll give you mine. Hasn't run in 15 years but it's free and always housed in a case.

Stihl ms462 would be nice but is too pricey. Maybe ms271 in 20" bar would be good enough?
