My ZRX is due for a valve adjust and spark plugs. I'm fully qualified to perform the service myself, but it's a shim and bucket valve adjustment and I don't have a stock of shims, so I am going to have somebody else perform this. I was looking for a shop in SF that can do this. It seems that CCW has some pretty good Yelp reviews. Has anybody here had experiences with them?

If you do it yourself I have the shim kit, I live here in SF pm me.

I take my bike there all the time, and a bunch of friends as well, the owner Adam, is super cool and knowledgeable & won't screw you on pricing.

If you can do it yourself, OR the folks @ zxroa.org http://www.zrxoa.org/) have a couple of "roving" shim kits that "wander" around the USA. They are there for the asking free(you cover shipping to the next in line; & getting in line saying "Dibs.") Or you can figure out what shims you need, & ask on the "want" section of the ZRXOA site f/specific size shims. Folks have them & it's as simple as mailing a few, or trading a few FREE. :thumbup

Just make sure you change the "plug-well gaskets," as well as the valve cover gasket, as they will leak if old (or have had a few valve adjustments before on them.)

You can get the entire gasket "kit" @ ELS, f/a better price than KAW, here:

Air-Injection Plug kit (if needed here):

Valvecover Block-offs plugs/plates are available f/various sources including ELS. I had Muzzy's on mine, but Rob Muzzy retired, closed shop. Current ZRX is stock.

Thanks for the input. I'm usually all for doing things myself. But I have been super busy at work and the last thing I feel like doing after fixing cars all day is fixing my own car(bike).... I had no idea there was a roving shim kit, that's kind of awesome!

CCW quoted me a price for the job and I was totally ok with it. (SF Moto still hasn't got back to me with an estimate) I was going to go with SFmoto because they are walking distance to my work, but I also liked the reviews I read from Yelp about CCW. I'm all for supporting small business in SF.

They've been around with Adam at the helm for years! I came to SF in '95 and he was there. Great guy and I'm happy he's still in business. So many shops have come and gone.

That's cool. Just make sure he changes the valve cover gasket AND the plug well gaskets (may not have been done before; & they prone to leakage after a few uses/adjustments.)

If you have a pipe & jetting? Get the air injection plug kits. 5-min. swap during valve clearance check. Cheap =$15/fixes/reduces backfires. http://kwickstand.net/Hyper-Formance.com/NoFlo!_Air_Injection_Plugs.html

Let me throw a spark plug in the ring for Adam! He worked on my '05 FJR 1300, and my wife's '09 Versys, for 3 years (before we returned to Chicago). Extremely competent, always on-time, and 100% on-budget. I also found his tire prices to be very competitive. He is a super nice guy and knows an incredible amount about the 4 major Japanese brands. His shop is always full of bikes awaiting repairs so it appears that he has many fans. He did everything from simple oil changes to new rotors on my FJR; on the Versys it was farkle installation and regular maintenance. Highly recommend with no reservations!

And the best part?! He always has a frig full of cool refreshing juices and soft drinks and a basket full of chocolates! :)

Good luck to you!

Patrick
