Comcrap alternatives?

:laughing

And of course, right after I get off the phone complaining, I get an email "Great news! We've increased your upload speeds! We're happy to announce you can now enjoy up to 5-10x faster upload speeds to your current package at no additional cost."

Then got a phone call saying "our technicians identified and fixed a problem in your area! You may not need the appointment on Monday anymore. Would you like to cancel?"

Riiiiiiiiight. The issues I've been having for a year magically got fixed in the span of a 45 minute phone call.

We’ve been using the netgear cm1200 for about 3yrs. Around 900Mbps down, very reliable and good throughput for a family of four. Recently switched to unlimited because we hit over 1 terabyte the past two months

This post gives me Dejavu. I have had this happen more than once with Comcast. I called in December to get a cost without the TV package I have. You just can not get a straight answer. 45 minutes and was told the person who could answer my questions was not in. Was told without their approval I would need to pay install charges for home alarm and internet, even if they are already installed.:mad

I need to set aside a few hours and make the call. I have the Home alarm that I like and the Gig internet.

One question. What does anyone use for over the air DVR?

My friend said she took her modem into their store one time to try to swap it out and the guy helping her tried to go through the remote troubleshooting script, then told her it was fixed and he had sent it a signal to reboot and it was registering all green and good to go now! Wasn't that great news?

...all while she was standing in front of him holding the modem. She just looked at him and asked "fucking seriously?" and he doubled down and was like "yup! It's good to go now!" She took the modem and went to a different store and got it swapped out but damn how dumb do you have to be to even attempt that? Or how fucked is their QA software that it spits out green no matter whether the modem is even connected?

probably a combination of both?

i've had them try to say i had two antivirus programs installed without ever looking at my computer, and another, in the processing of setting up service (and wifi) for ex's brother, they connected his computer to a different wifi network than the one they JUST set up.

...reading this are remembering the new year is here and I have to go into the Xfinity store to work on another 'deal'. In person.

When dealing with phone representatives, I always ask this question,

"Can you email me a synopsis of our conversation, listing your promises of service and pricing?"

The answer is always, "No."

Then the multipage rendition of 'bistromathics' shows up and many times must renegotiate.

MythTV installed on an older PC. But the geek factor is high.

it's like work, except it's at home, you don't get paid and your dearest loved ones get all riled up when the server is down. sign me up :laughing. Looks neat but not for me, don't need to worry about another system that could break.

Update: still dealing with packet loss, despite buying the CM1200 modem and AX5400 router both from Netgear. No discernible difference in speed or reliability, but at least after a few months of paying those leeches $15 for gear rental I'll have chipped that off the price.

They basically ghosted me on pestering them about servicing the line at the street.

I cannot fucking wait till Verizon or ATT or someone installs fiber to this neighborhood. It's coming.

I have Sonic. They are pretty good. They have fiber access to some locations. For my area, they run off of ATT copper. You have to rent their equipment. Pretty cheap. No complaints from me.

I am a big Sonic fan and have their Fiber Service now. Good service with excellent customer support.

Ha! This is deja vu. My $50/month comcast at 500mbs just jumped to $92 a month. Been $50 a month for over two years. Did the chat and got 800mbs for $65 a month after discounts and 'assure you' bs. This included a few Flex Tv thing I'm not gonna hook up because I think there's a $15 few for it.

I might need a new modem now to take the 800mbs. My bought modem has laster 5 years now. I'm also running an Eero wifi 6 pro mesh 3 satellite router thats awesome. Things pop back online after power outages no problem.

Fiber isnt at my location. Not sure how cost effective satellite internet would be.

Dubbs, Just internet, right?
One year deal or longer?

My stuff is 5+ years, Airport Extreme and Motorola SurfBoard SBG141 router at supposedly 500mbps. Probably wouldn't hurt to up grade that stuff though.

Yeah internet only. CS Chat said it the price would never go up so not sure if that's a year or not. We'll find out.

Had them for years on copper...but I never HAD to use their gear, always configured and used my own (and they never had an issue with it, aside from not being able to remotely mess with my modem). Switched to others (now using Sail and very happy with them) given the slow speeds - I waited for years for them to deploy fiber but it never happened in our area.

They were both cheaper and faster than AT&T...using the very SAME DSL lines and CO from AT&T. Exponentially better service too.
