One of the Blues made a mistake during the merge and flew too low and over the beach. Some media put a spin on it. A couple politicians stuck their noses where they didn't belong and in my opinion tarnished the image of the Blue Angels.
The Apache pilots intentionally broke the rules and should have felt the full repercussions. The Blues pilot made a mistake and should also be held responsible. He did not participate in a least one of the following events. There is still a chance he will be removed from the team. The politicians are sending the wrong message.
Here are two examples that did not end badly, but were still screwed up. A compressor stall (think motorcycle or car misfire) and they would have killed civilians.
Here is an example of an authorized maneuver at an airshow that ended poorly. The right engine stopped supplying thrust.
