Those too, shit forgot about those. And what I referred to earlier was 2 different numbers you can call (local and a 888) to get the caller ID on the line you are on as well.
When I was growing up, before the days of 911, if you dialed 91911 and hung up - your own phone would ring. This was from the days of party-lines, where several households would share a line. If you wanted to call your neighbor on the same line, you dialed it and they would (hopefully) answer. But long after they got rid of actual party-lines, the 91911 system was still in operation. It was a great way for kids to get one or another parent occupied a few critical moments sometimes, or just to annoy the fuck out of them.
Yes, I'm old. But when I was first becoming familiar with telephones, you used to pick up the receiver and the operator would ask "Number, please?" In those days, our home phone number was 422W
