Hi, I live about 1.5 hours north of Santa Rosa. My name is Mark. I've been really interested in learning how to ride for a long time but could never make it happen. I have about 10 minutes seat time on an old xr200 that's it lol.

You guys have a really strong community here I think its great! Someone posted a link to BARF on a facebook local trading group. Glad they did. :)

I've been searching all over for a decent cheap starter bike and coming up short. Hopefully that'll change.. I'm looking forward to reading your posts and talking to all of you. Thanks!

:welcome and good luck on getting your first bike

Welcome! Not sure if you took the MSF yet but i highly recommend it. It is a lot of fun and important info

:welcome TheAutomator!

Yeah, take MSF!!!! Although, dirt bike riding is certainly a good start, as well, and possibly a LOT more fun.

There are certainly a LOT of good training video's found on YouTube that you can learn from, then applying it to your riding that will help you to becoming a good and safe rider.

Doc Wong hosts rider clinics too. Maybe a bit far for you, but he's there if you're willing to make the effort. A good seed to be planted, so to speak.

Meanwhile, enjoy your stay here on BARF and Happy :ride

Thanks! I wish I could get dirt bike. I live literally 15 minutes from Cow Mountain. :) I don't have a truck/trailer and don't really know anyone with one so that's kind of out unless I find a deal on a dual sport which I'm not against. :)

Definitely something to think about. I have been doing quite a bit of research and thinking about everything. Thanks again. :)

BTW, I lived in Milpitas when I was younger haha! Right off of Temple Drive. Went to Alexander Rose Elementary then Rancho for a couple years before we moved to SJ. You guys are nuts for riding bikes down there. So much traffic. Be safe.

Welcome, also, when in the area, stop by the Santa Rosa bike night. Thursdays 6 to 9 pm. Costco Shopping Center on Santa Rosa Avenue at Star Bucks aka *$. We have a few Lake County riders in the Northbay Group aka the Northlanders. We might even be able to hook you up with sellers and get you into a good circle of riders.

Oh that would be great thanks. :thumbup My schedule is a bit out of whack but I would like that.

Wilkommen. Prolly you should state what you are looking to spend... the folks hereabouts are pretty fantastic and deals can be had over in the classifieds... stay safe

Thanks and good idea. I'm not quite ready just yet but it'll be around $1500 and will be looking for 3rd gen ninja 250. Hopefully one from an enthusiast that took care of it. ;) I've been checking the classifieds. Everyone here does seem really down to earth too.

My big problem is I live in a tiny community. I'm going to have to travel most likely and ride it back home. Don't even have M1 endorsement yet haha. I'm patient and it'll work. Also need to save a bit more. Just went on a mini vacation and went over budget.

Thanks again.

Took the MSF course and got the M1 endorsement today. :) Hopefully I'll be able to afford gear/bike before the zombie apocalypse muhahahaha.

MSF course was awesome! Everyone passed except one guy and no one dropped a bike.

Congrats! I can't tell you how many people I run into who say they've always wanted to learn to ride and they just don't! It makes no sense! I don't know much about ninjas but its good to start small and cheap. Fewer tears are shed when you drop it 8 times in the driveway.
