Starting to look like potentially the worst nightmare Covid variant may have formed. Increased transmissivity (higher than Delta) + much higher antibody and vaccine evasion.

Discuss....
 
Will wait and see. Still wearing a mask and avoiding too much contact with the remaining 7.5 billion humans.
 
I just got my booster Friday... Another soon I suppose.

Variant specific vaccine may be ready, but will need emergency approval from the FDA.

By the time the vaccine is getting into arms, the next variant may enter the chat.

I thought I read somewhere that because it was only a minor change to the vaccine that it didn't need any additional approval? I may have just made that up though.

Time will tell. They say ready early next year, which is longer than the post above would suggest.
 
I remember them saying the same thing about Delta, that it could evade the vaccine. Turns out that isn't the case.

We will know for sure in two weeks.

We weren't planning on boosters until January, but we'll keep an eye on Omi and the rest, see if it may we worthwhile to wait a few more weeks if a newer vaccine is in the pipeline.

But I'm hearing still several months for updated vaccines.

Good or bad, we'll know more in 6 weeks or so.

I've read similar anecdotal reports from other S. African sources and from Israel. I'm not usually one to glom onto this stuff, but I really hope this is the strain that turns into a flu, highly contagious, but mild and it wipes out the other deadly strains. And since I'm hoping, let's say no long term effects either:laughing

Heck. The governor of New York just claimed another CDC emergency due to this BS, BEFORE A SINGLE CASE HAS EVEN SHOWN UP!
