Crashed in T6 at Laguna and Do Not Know Why

I had a great weekend with Keigwins until I crashed in Turn 6 during a 1pm session. It happened during my first lap. I am puzzled why this happened. It looks like I lost front. The tires are new with one session on them. Perhaps, it is suspension with too much preload. The bike is set up for my weight with K-Tech Race Pistons and Penske Triple Clicker.

I would appreciate your input on my crash and how to deal with the T6 in the future. :thumbup

theres a huge dip there. fast guys finish their turning and are on the gas before it. u were still adding lean angle when u went over it.

u didnt use the brakes much between pit out and there so the front tire was likely a little cold as well. they cool down if u are just rolling around.

Ya, I was gonna say there's a big ol' bump right there...

so the next question is... why didnt u notice that dip in all the other sessions and adjust your riding to be faster/safer?

I guess I do not have much experience (aka "stupid") to realize that the bump could cause my front collapse. Thank you for your feedback. I will be extremely careful in that turn next time and will work on being on the gas before the bump. :thumbup

any surface irregularities will decrease grip. dips, bumps, seams, tar snakes, non-FIM curbing, paint, patches, etc. its very important the figure out if going over them is worth it, if any riding adjustments u have to make to go over them is actually going to decrease your laptime safely. if so, work on the riding skill. if not, find the line that avoids them. really, its not different than adjusting your riding to deal w/ off-camber, on-camber, downhill, or uphill turns.

its hard to tell, u might have lost the front before hitting the other side of the dip. so your front suspension did not extend fast enough into the hole, leaving the front tire floating in the air. thats def not what i would call "front collapse". theres a dip at Vegas in T3 that i used to have tons of issues with until i sorted my front suspension damping a bit better. the primary cause of this crash def isnt a suspension issue, but u can always make the bike better.

You should take it easy on your out lap even with warmers

It's gone over at every-single-rider-meeting --- get away from your bike after you crash. If another rider makes the same mistake then while you had your back to the track you could get gathered up. Leave your bike, get out of the impact area, never turn your back to the track while you are that close and in an impact zone.

Sorry to hear your crash but I am curious to know what the possibilities of what caused this accident to happen as well. I was just at Laguna and I went over that bump constantly with no issues but I was probably slower than others haha.

That was kind of a fluke crash Imho. Which tires ? What pressure? Was your warmer both on and working? Looks like you had just picked up maintenance throttle right before the apex. Were you still adding steering input? Was your inside arm relaxed? Were you hanging off?

awww, that sucks! :(

load the tire before you work the tire.

Tires not to temp, hit the bump while not on the throttle.... just slipped out.

Perhaps you took it a little too wide, from other laps, so you hit it harder. 1-2" line change makes a world of difference on the bump.

This.

Just wondering how you got away with running at Leguna? Did you put your stock pipe on and it was ok to go?

Sorry about the Crash i looks like everyone explained what happened.

JDid you put your stock pipe on and it was ok to go?

My r1 has an aftermarket KR Tuned 3/4 Exhaust that came with removable inserts. So at Laguna I had to put them back inside. Takes me 20 seconds to install and remove them, very convenient.

Do you know for sure your warmers were on and your tires were hot when you left the pit?

I remember that the warmers were on and I usually check the tire temperature with my hand. However, I remember before the start of the session, I was waiting for a friend who was supposed to follow me. It was like 2-3 minutes in the hot pit without warmers. I am not sure if this was enough time for the tires to cool down.
