The bike got very hot and just stopped running. I changed the oil. pulled the spark plug and kicked it over. compression seemed good. only problem is there is now no spark. I tried a few plugs I had around and no spark with any of them. I posted this question over at thumpertalk but though i would see if anyone had any advise here for me. when a bike gets excessively hot what part of the electrical system is most likely to fail and do you have any tips for testing the suspect portion of the electrical system? By the way the bike is a 2004 CRF150F no e start =(

I accidentally adjusted the shift lever a little too high on the wifes bike and she could not get the bike into second because the shifter would hit the case. She was trying to keep up with me to explain the problem. So the bike was running in first gear with high revs. I screwed up because I should of checked to make sure it would clear the case after the adjustment.:(

if you aren't getting any spark and you've tried a few spark plugs, the next link in the chain is the spark plug wire, then the coil, then the alternator. I don't know why revving the piss out of the bike for an extended period would kill either, but it's the next thing for you to check if you're not getting spark. Troubleshoot using the service manual....you have one, right?

check for recalls. i heard something a while back about the 150r but i think it was about the cam.

The key was turned on. That was the first thing I checked. I don't have a service manual and did not particular want to buy one because I was planing to sell this bike shortly to pick up an electric start for the wife.

Hmm.. Good question.. Hard to troubleshoot on the internet.. I'd be willing to take a look at it.

sounds like you might have cooked the Coil, take it off take it to a shop and have it tested.

It is easier to hook up a test light on the primary side of the coil and try to start it- if your test light blinks on and off, it is your coil or plug wire or plug. If not, the problem is further up the circuit. make sure to check your ground wire, too.

Better yet.. Touch your tongue to it.. Who needs coffee!!
