Cuddy cabin or open bow?

If economy is a concern boating is not for you.

Ya but it doesn't need to cost $200-$400 per day either. My family can be out on the lake having fun and still be economical. It's the guys that have to try and out do each other every year that make it seem uneconomical...hmmm.

I picked up sailing the next weekend (logic being that if you can't go 40 kts, you can't clip a rock at 40 kts...this was years before America's Cup, mind you).

You started sailing in 1849 which would be two years before America's Cup? :twofinger

Also keep in mind engine economy. We got an old clean bayliner cuddie this year for a screamin deal. At first I was kinda disapointed that it only had a 3.0L 4 cyl engine but soon found that it could pull tubes, knee boards, or a wakeboarder just fine. We went out 6 days before filling it back up and it only cost $45 to fill. On the other hand my buddies $50,000 Malibu with a V-8 can pull more tail but eats $100 worth of gas in one Saturday afternoon. Our lake doesn't have gas pumps so he either has to bring cans in the back of the truck or trailer it back into town to fill it up when we are camping on the lake for the entire weekend. I even had to pull him in with my $4,500 boat when he ran it out of fuel.:rofl:twofinger
It only gets worse when you have a jet boat:laughing. Every 3 hours youll dump 20 gallons of fuel.
OP, i gotta ask, are you doing the maintenance/up keep? Or having a shop take care of all that. It will make a huge difference in finances of boat ownership- if thats something of concern. Oh, and the more you use the boat, the less problems youll have.

I do my own maintenance. My dad has owned a few boat shops and this ain't my first rodeo, but I have been out of the game for quite a while.

Going on lakes and rivers in bikini weather? Go for the open bow. If you intend to go out in the bay, open water, or camp on your boat, then go for the cuddy cabin.

Lefty, Ant wasn't questioning your fondness of boats when he asked if you like seamen.

In other news, I'm going to look at the open bow tomorrow and will keep you all posted. The feedback has been helpful and appreciated. It looks like I need two boats!

OOOOHHHHH!!!

Never-mind!!

Iron Duke motor? Those things are great. Solid and under-stressed. Half a small block Chevy.

I went with the open bow :thumbup. Looking at the size of the boat a cuddy cabin would've been pretty darn cramped - I'd already need a bigger boat!

She needs a good deep cleaning and cosmetic upgrades, but comes with a fresh 525hp/496 along with the freshened up Bravo1 drive.

$11k out the door.

Your input was greatly appreciated as I was steering towards the cuddy cabin for twice as much $ and a tired motor.

Does anyone know of any local lakes with any water left in it? :laughing

Wow, that looks great! Yeah, you'll spend at the pump, but fuck it, that thing will be fun. Probably do just fine on Tahoe too.

First thing you want to do is get a snap on canvas cover for that open bow.

One good wet sloppy day and you'll see the value. Keeps the wet out and lowers the cold. Good for lake cruising on a cold morning.

That AND if you put it in the Bay or the ocean - open bow = whoops!

I did it to a 1967 Starcraft 17' and it made it sea worthy. Caught a lot of salmon that way. :)

525 HP? Mother of God.

Regardless, a fine ship there, cap'n! Now don't go crossing over DY's while going around curves, or anything... :D

Don't want to be a Debbie Downer and it may just be the picture, but that boat does not look like it's sitting on that trailer properly. It should be resting against the roller up front. Are you sure that's the right trailer for that boat?

*goes to buy stock in Exxon*

:laughing

100g tank. At first I was all "awesome" and then realized that means $400. Hopefully it will get through a day of skiing.

Aye aye.:thumbup

You obviously haven't bought gas on the water. :laughing

Last time I filled my boat at the lake, it was about $7.50 a gallon and that was two years ago.

I plan on taking her for a shakedown on Saturday before tucking her away for the winter, so if anyone can back a truck in without creating a youtube video lemme know.
