ok so I saw today on revzilla that they have the Shoei Qwest prestige helmet on close out for $299. I contacted cycle gear through their chat line to request a price match. Cycle gear declined to do a price match saying that they don't match clearance items.
they state on their price matching page the following: •Items on clearance and pricing that require a coupon code are excluded

unless my English is bad, the words clearance and closeout are two different things.

So this chick named Kierstyn argued with me the fact that I told her that their price matching policy doesn't state close out and she said they are the same thing. I told her they weren't and if that was the policy that the line should say clearance and/or close out.
I then told her that their price matching policy was misleading. It was like talking to a brick wall.

ahh cycle gear. word things properly and in the line about sales tax, be sure to spell "state" right. Its "state" not "tate"

Your arguing semantics with an employee. It like wrestling with a pig. You might win but you'll get muddy and the pig might like it. Cycle Gear has always been a pretty good retailer with very generous return policies, decent pricing and good customer service.

Seems like the same thing to me. Who cares anyway? Buy it from Revzilla...

From dictionary.reference.com:

Closeout: 2. A sale on goods of a type that will no longer be carried by the store.

Clearance: 4. Also called clearance sale. the disposal of merchandise at reduced prices to make room for new goods.

Sounds like "closeout" is a more specific case of "clearance", so I'd say the Cycle Gear chick is close enough to being right in this case.

Personally I think you wasted too much energy on this. As soon as they denied it, just move on, its their policy.

That said, I've had good luck getting a good price when I speak to someone in the store. Of course, YMMV

Closeout is one word.

Typically, "OK" is capitalized, as is the first letter of a word that starts a sentence.

Also, when spoken, "OK, so" sounds like "Oh, queso". You know like some Spanish cheese is up to no good again.

I found the real problem in the post.

OP, you sound like kind of a jerk, to be honest. As has been stated, a closeout is essentially a specific type of clearance sale. It seems daft to argue that, because the terminology used didn't perfectly match, they should honor the price match for you. There's also no point in arguing with the employee. If she told you that it is excluded, you have two options:

1. Take her at her word
2. Speak to a manager, who will likely tell you the same thing.

Continuing to argue with her is certainly not going to convince her that you are right.

You should have gone into the store, they would have caved in and price matched it. But instead, you used chat or whatever, making it easy for them to deny you because it wasn't face-to-face.

Saving 10 bux and posting on barf.

= Win.

Enjoy your new Helmet!

My pals at CG do everything they can do to get me the best price but sometimes they just can't.
Yeah, and I'm okay with that too.

I just got a super sale price on a Q3 and they mounted it for free while I waited but my local CG is tops.
I'm debating going to Q3's on my Sumo, I have Michelin Pilot power now. CG has a good price and that''s the reason I'm debating otherwise I'd stay with the Michelins. Any opinions on the Q3's so far?

I think you knew what you were doing and that if it worked you would have 'gotten away' with something.

Why would you want to do business with Cycle Gear to begin with? Those liars won't get another dollar of my money...
