Cycle Gear Return Policy

Used once. Not damaged and in perfectly usable condition, does have some scratches from prickley bushes though. I just want something with a little more protection with a more secure fit.

Not damaged just scratched? :rofl

Not all dogs go to heaven...:rolleyes

As a former CG member I can state unequivocally that they will take them back. They're go to the local outlet store, Sac or SJ, and get marked down. That's what 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed means.

Whether someone feels it's right or not is not your problem. If you wanted to return a pair of Dainese leathers that you crashed in three times because the lettering fell off they would still take them bike. However, they would try like hell to get you not to.

I bought a pair of Fox Knee/Shin guards that I used for Mountain Biking, but I think I want a more protective set. I used them once and took a couple of spills in them, so they are bit scratched.

I still have the receipt and packaging. What are your experiences with their 100% satisfaction guarantee? Is it similar to REI with the 100% refund?

I returned some gloves that were ever-so-slightly too small, but that I had worn. Cycle Gear took them back without even raising an eyebrow. In retrospect, I should have kept them. I agree with what people are saying - not really fair to ask them to eat the cost.

However, Cycle Gear uses that satisfaction guarantee to make sales, and to justify their higher prices. I had two salespeople use it on me. So I use that to rationalize.

REI surprised me the other day though. I returned two obviously unused items that had been sitting around my house for some time, but still had the tags and original packaging. The guy kinda grumbled, credited my card, then refused to take back a bike tool that broke. His reasoning - "you got some use out of it, so it's not like you are unsatisfied." What!?

Does CG's computer keep tabs on serial returners?

It didn't when I worked there, which was maybe five years total, but each store kind of keeps track of people who abuse the system. In fact, we caught a guy who was stealing from two different bay area stores and using the policy to return the stolen items for store credit. Tough to prove but I exercised my 'right to refuse service' the next time he came in which at least put an end to the abuse. :twofinger

Theoretically they could tell you to F' off if you were using them for free rental. :thumbdown

CG expects people to return things, the loss from the average customer returning something a little iffy is more than made up for by the customer who gets the right thing but has the peace of mind to make a purchase on something they might not risk otherwise. ...that is kind of convoluted but I think you know what I mean.

Man there are a lot of pansy posting here! If you bought it and don't like it then return it. It has nothing to do with moral or anyones views. They have a return policy and you should use it.

I can't remember how much crap i have returned to CG because of their policy. I have brought in gloves that in 1 month the velcro came loose and they just gave me a new pair. I have brought back jackets with zippers that have gone bad and they eat the cost for repair. I have bought racing pants, tried them and then returned them a week later. They even suggest taking it for a spin and returning it if you don't like it. This is their policy so please folks don't get all high and mighty about it.

For what is it worth CG NEVER gave me any crap for it and they look forward to my repeat business because they know they will make more money off of me in the long run and a happy costumer will bring new clients.

Keep thinking that buddy.

For every 1 customer like you, CG depends on 10 other customers like me who do their correct research, buy, and not return to make their money.

Let me put it in another way. Let's say EVERY CG customer is like YOU. How long do you think that liberal return policy will last?

Probably about as long as your piss.

As a side note, does anyone remember how liberal Fry's and Costco's return policy used to be?

Dudes were buying PC's, TV's, etc.. using them for 6 months, and returning them for the latest and greatest.

How much were they? were they expensive?

If you're not 100% satisfied, ie "I wanted somethign that would stay on my leg but these kneegaurds are loose. I will try to make them work for me but eventually find them too loose for use"

that sounds like a solid reason to return them. If not, then resell them online for a loss.

CG's return policy is very relaxed. They are great with returns... just morally dont abuse it.

let's see... one guy buys em for tax season, uses it to do tax brokerage, then returns them.

another animation studio needed a render farm for 3 weeks... bought a ton, then returned them afterwards.

yeah...

That's what i'm saying.. The serial returner sees nothing wrong, as they see that it is their right to freely return as dictated by the retailer.

No abuse at all...

It's really just people who grew up with some sense of entitlement.:p

I was just in line behind this guy who was returning a CRT TV at Costco. Not the flat screen kind either. :laughing

I will cause they agree with me and encourage it. <-- thats the part you can't wrap around your head around.

Your for every 1 customer comment shows you have no clue what you are talking about and shows how high you hold yourself compared to others.

Those people are using a product and returning it to try and get one over on a company. That is way different they buying something, trying it out, figuring out it is not what you want and returning it.

I was behind some moron trying to return a lawnmover to Lowe's one day. It was well used and covered with grass. Looked like it was months old at least. He said 'I'd like to return this...'. The clerk said 'why?' He said 'I don't like it anymore and I want a new one...' They told him to pound sand. I actually hung around the store for a while just to see how it played out. The guy was a total dipshit. I was really glad they stood their ground and told him to fuck off.

Ah no.

From you:

I can't remember how much crap i have returned to CG because of their policy.

When you can no longer remember how much crap you've returned at CG, i'd say you aren't particular the money maker for them.

If you want to take something out of context that is fine but the rest of my post explains it.

If CG didn't sell so much crap that falls apart I wouldn't return it.

you fail again!

If I feel CG sells a lot of
that forced me to constantly buy and return something, i'd probably look elsewhere to buy my motorcycle needs.

But that's just me.
