An end of an Era is upon us as Cycle World magazine now is gone - January 1962 to July 7th. This magazine, along with my favorite Motorcyclist, informed my taste buds for riding and influenced my desires for new machines. I remember lusting after many motos that graced its pages that eventually found a home in my garage.

Not exactly. But I have huge respect for Surj and his all-in effort with City Bike.
I hope his world has lots of smiles in it these days.

Sorry to see Cycle World go. For sure a go to resource before there was any internet or heck even before I moved out of my parents house! Back when a trip to the drug store had 10 moto magz up for offer.

Like Surj says in his fair well.
Motorcycle culture has changed, motorcycle media has changed, and neither for the better in my opinion.

A coulpe of years ago I stumbled across an issue of CW in the bookstore.

It was a new format, much more artsy layout, quality paper, kind of a "coffee table magazine" (but just magazine size).

It was really nice, mostly lifestyle oriented rather than testing the later crop of 600s.

But, alas, I guess it was their last print issue. I didn't realize they maintained an online presence.

The only MC stuff I follow are basically here, Fortnine on YT, the AMA magazine.

I think having Mitch Boehm as editor was a sea change for the style and flavor of the AMA magazine, and in a good way. It's mostly classic stuff, and some family stuff, but it certainly feels more old school MC magazine than the AMA mag was before.

That explains the lack of emails lately. Rider still wants to inform me but I’m too cheep to subscribe. I wore out a green bag that either Cycle or Cycle World sent me. So will this increase the value of the few magazines I have?

I used to subscribe to Rider also but they got a bit pricey for a magazine

Did this magazine used to have crash and burn at the end of the magazine?
I loved looking at those photos when I was a kid. Maybe it was another one but either way magazines are great and it’s sad they’re gone.
I use to just read them at the grocery store as a kid….

Magazines as a whole are a dead or dying industry no?

I can’t remember the last time I saw anyone reading one.

I haven’t touched a magazine or newspaper in ages.

When we lived in Australia I used to get Australian Motorcycle News in print. https://amcn.com.au/categories/news/
Used to love that mag. It’s still around, as is its Brit sister rag, Motorcycle News. They’re both pretty spendy if you want the print versions, which may be an indicator of how hard it is to keep a print pub afloat. AMCN: $76 for 13 issues (Oz only). MCN: $380 for 52 issues (US delivery).

Kinda spendy for me.

I currently subscribe to 2 magazines. The AMA being one, another a niche hobby interest of mine. I used to get the American Rifleman from the NRA, but they stopped publishing that. It's all online, I haven't bothered to sign up to read it, no real interest in it online.

There's another niche hobby magazine that I semi-regularly pick up at the bookstore, when I happen to be there (which is not that often to be honest).

I should have a collection of refund checks, for issues paid for, but not delivered.
Mac Addict was the first to go, all of the cycle mags, Motorcyclist, Cycle World, City Bike, NRA, even
Sedona Excentric,
Outside, wobbled and went "Woman's Day" with the layout, the precursor to folding.
One page of light content, big pix, other page, big color ads for a product. Big stories from new authors, only a paragraph, & head shot pix. Lots of gear posed to sell. This is still published, making money with this format.
All the mags went this route, moto's too, and still failed.

Does Cycle World still sell their IOM TT vinyl ?

As a yoot, I had a pile of magazines as tall as I was.
Hot rod, car craft, super Chevy, car craft, anything that came out about hot rods, especially Chevy's.
It was my fantasy world.

There's a Facebook page "Fans of Cycle Magazine" some of you Boomers might enjoy.

edit..Just went to the online page and what I'd assume to be the last posting the last bike review is of the current Triumph Trident....seems a touch ironic or maybe it's me...

Will this end the Cycle World YouTube channel?

This was watched often by me…..
