MultiStrada, looking for an R1 for my midlife crisis
... is it just me or did this place turn into the harbor freight of motorcycles over the past few years. I used to enjoy going to that store, now I just cringe to see what they have replaced with SIDICI or BILT. They fail to carry a good selection of quality gear and peddle their store brands. Frank Thomas even makes their store gear look abysmal and that was not the best either. I wish they'd revert back to 8-10 years ago when they were actually decent. Even their sales now are terrible - save 20% on bilt or sedici..grrrreat. Hey but you can get a free worthless gift if you spend a bunch with them..

speaking of, i have a frank thomas liner thats been through hell and back. serves as my do all liner for my technics summer mesh these days, but its always been a part of my gear. through 7 years. it has always been my little security blanket that i could rely on when it was cold out. i bought it at cycle gear, as part of a winter jacket(which i still have and use). all these years, it has stood by me. a stitching repair here and there, but always, sitting on the table, waiting for me to stuff it in my rear seat bag. it will be with me forever, thanks to cycle gear.

yes and that stuff was decent. I still have a jacket by them which is about 12 years old - it's not the finish quality of the leathers I wear now but it's light-years beyond the current store brands.

I dont hate my cortech jacket now. At this point everything that's gonna break already has. Didnt need that waist strap and pocket zipper anyway.

Hopefully someone else will come along and stock decent gear again. It used to be my go to store but now, I try and shop elsewhere when I can. I guess I am the exception to the rule based on the comments though.

There's really nothing to complain about, just don't shop there if you don't like it. They've got a great selection of name brand helmets, tons of impulse and 'oh-yeah' stuff all over the store. Maintenance supplies, oil often on sale, filters, tubes, chain lube, cleaning supplies, electrical & mechanical repair supplies & components, batteries & chargers. Tools, tires, locks. Lots of off road/ moto-x garb & gear. And of course lots of affordable new rider gear.

Dave Bertram is a BARF sponsor and promotes motorcycling & racing nation wide. I have never gone into A Cycle Gear and not bought something. I wish they were still in Richmond on McDonald instead of that wig store that's there now. Not a "Fan Boy", just a regular customer.

And great customer service.

Maybe it's just the local store then. Here's my recent experience. I went to buy new leathers. My choices were Dainese Secas, Alpinestars low end suit I didn't like or one of two Sedici suits. After finding some leathers online I went to buy new boots, SMX plus or Corse Outs was what I was looking at, no sizes even close to my size 10 feet (which you'd think would be very common to keep in stock) nor any color variations in the sizes they did have. Tons of Sedici boots though. I've spent 1000s in cyclegear over the years.

They exist for convenience and the budget minded shopper. I'm glad they're around and open 7 days a week. Saved my ass more than once for the Monday commute.

+1 for cycle gear. They aren't ment to be a high end dealer of top of the line motorcycle gear. There is a reason you can't find local retail stores that stock full lines of 2k+ race suits and motogp qualified gear (most people can't afford to wear 3k dollars of gesr all the time). They carry at least 1 model of a* and Dainese race suits in just about every store I've been in and a boat load of a* gear. They are geared at the everyday rider that is looking for affordable decent gear. Their sedici line even offers a lifetime warrenty. I'm not saying their house brands are the best but I personally really like the sedici stuff. I've had the race suit but I did turn it in for the warrenty (had a seam designed in a bad spot on the inseam that tore) but they replaced it with no issues. I've crashed in thier boots and they held up so well I still use them everyday.

I just wish they carried a larger variety of oils as they don't carry full synthetic motul, and I wish they had more and larger stores. The neatest one for me is atleast 30 mins

To me that touches on the issue of the stores not being large enough, they can't house every size of every color of every peice of great they sell, they don't have the warehouse space. Could also be a specific store issue with the store team not staying on top of inventory on hands

They're my emergency store - my I need this today store

This.

And this. They serve a need, glad to have them around when I need them. And I never feel bad about sending a beginning rider on a budget to them, they have great service and pricing. BILT gear may not be the highest quality or very comfortable but it's cheap as hell and will keep you safe in a crash.

Convenient and budget minded. Not bad, just different.

Their jacket selection, glove selection and suit selection is not to my tastes.

I picked up my Shoei GT Air at the local Cycle Gear and really loved getting to try them on before buying.

My Alpinestars boots were also in stock and I really was happy to buy them locally.

I wish their jacket selection was better, but ......
