Daytona boots - Looking for suggestions/feedback`

My waterproof boots are flippy floppy garbage Tourmaster Solution boots.

My regular boots are Alpinestars SMX Plus. I really like the fit and comfort of these boots. The ankle protection is a bit suspect. They do make a Goretex version and I imagine they would fit perfectly like the regular verions.

I've been off and on shopping Daytonas for a long time. Previously money was an issue when replacing boots. Money is not a worry this go around, but I don't want to spend unnecessarily.

After discarding the Road Star due to lack of ankle protection, I've semi-settled on the Voltex GTX and the Evo Sports GTX (NOT the Security).

I cannot find any technical differences. They look different, the Voltex is a newer model, but the specs look the same. The Voltex is a bit more expensive from every source.

1. Are they functionally different?

2. How comfortable would they be off bike? I stop frequently on moto trips and wan't something usable for short excursions. The Alpinestars are very comfortable off bike.

3. Any reason to not use one of the inner boot models for touring/every day use?

My GTX is very comfortable off the bike. However the soles are very soft and I've burned through the heel. Never happened with any other bike boot.

I have the current-gen SMX Plus, and although the ankle protection isn't as good as my Dainese Torque or A* Supertech, it's way better than most boots, and as you say - nothing I've had as a boot beats the all-day comfort of the SMX-plus. And there's a lot to be said for that, especially - as you note - for getting off of the bike and tromping around. M'boy has the waterproof flavor, and finds them very comfortable as well.

I race in SMX Plus boots. I have no complaints.

I have Supertech R boots and stopped wearing them. I guess I have long and narrow feet, because I couldn't cinch the internal lacing system tight enough to offer any actually protection. I was pretty disappointed. I modified them by creating new eyelets for the laces, but it still wasn't what I expected.

I've owned a pair of Daytona Sport boots for the last 15 years or so. They're a great track boot and for that purpose I would recommend them whole heartedly. Even after 15 years, my Daytona boots are still very stiff. You can walk around in them, but you probably won't want to given how stiff they are and how thin the soles are. My non-GTX Sports are also very hot! Hot enough that I tend to take them off between track sessions and walk around in sandals while letting my socks dry. I can't imagine wanting to use the Gore-tex version of this boot...

It looks to me like the Voltex uses the same inner boot as the Daytona Sport but with a more up-to-date styling for the outer boot. I haven't seen it in person, so I don't know if that's an accurate assessment or not.

For an every day boot, I wear Dainese TRQ Tour boots. Ankle protection isn't nearly as good as the Daytona Sport, but it seems somewhat better than the majority of the boots at a similar price point. The toe box is a bit more roomy than the toe box for the Daytonas and the boot isn't nearly as stuffy, either.

Ugh. Probably going to buy the alpinestars - because I know they fit.

I can always use them as back up/foreign travel boots (I wouldn't be gutted If they get nicked)

I'll check out Daytonas when I am actually in a store that carries them to properly fit.

I've been using Daytona Roadstar GTX's for street duty for many years now... they're fantastic street boots. Top notch build quality and longevity. Very comfortable. For the track I a different set of boots which are dedicated for that purpose (sidi's.)

Me too - they're also great for walking around while off the bike without creaking or killing your feet. :) I'm starting to be a little wary of their apparent lack of real ankle protection, but man, they are comfortable and fantastic for sport touring, even in rain and cold weather. Currently looking for something just as comfy with beefier ankle protection. Something that runs in wide sizes for larger feet.
