Dead Gixxer...

This problem was due to a BAD plug at the Regulator Rectifier. :wtf

If a battery has an issue (like having a dead short zapping the life out of it) it may still read 12+ volts but yet when you turn the key on .... nada. Not a waste of time in my book. Whatever happened I would be willing to bet the battery is kaput.
Take your beloved GSXR to a professional and have it repaired and end all this tripe Gixxergirl1000. I would be very interested in what a mechanic finds (I also have a GSXR). I sounds very similar to what happened to my Honda. Best of luck with your bike :teeth

Hmmmm...... New battery and a bad plug eh

After today, please don't mention regulator rectifiers, bad plugs and electrical shorts, I don't want to hear about any of this for a while. Thank you.

I've been asked to post the following for Mosquito (who, I should point out, is unable to post for himself because he's working on my bike, in the dark, by the light of a household lamp... :cry ):

"So what, Mr. Hooli, I can't talk to you about rectification, butt connectors, or burnt shorts any more??" ;o)

Oh... he says he has a "crimping tool"?? :wtf I'm thinkin' I dohwanna know...

Straight up hardcore JONESIN' for a ride!!! I'm thinkin' Mines on Saturday!!! :teeth :ride :love

Get yours fixed?

I have to go to San jose on Saturday at some point to pick up my leather and we're having a 'greek' party sat night, complete with 4 piece band.. Y'all are invited.

Saab = headache. :laughing

I must respectfully dissent.

It was after GM took over Saab in the early 1990s that it went downhill.

Prior to that, however, Saabs were rad creations out of Trollhatten, Sweden. I've got a 1987 900 Turbo with around 350,000 miles on it right now. Clutch slave seals just went out on me a couple weeks back, but aside from that... business as usual. I cannot kill it. (Believe me - I've tried.) Had to do some tranny work a few years back, but it has been absolutely stout. Tows bikes... Hatchback gives me a stupid amount of hauling space. Handles reasonably well... Reasonable gas mileage. I love the car - absolutely.

Post-GM Saabs? Wouldn't touch 'em. Ever. Grandfather is a retired GM employee, so I've got at least some hesitations before bashing them too hard. Though I wouldn't mind a new Corvette. Best car for the buck these days, hands down.

one time i went to hit the starter button on a hurricane and ZAP!...what the fuck?

i opened up the starter button to find a big ass dead charred spider that had been living under there....

glad your bike is up and running.

*shuddddderrrr* oh god I hate spiders... it's the most disgustingly girlie thing about me... I'm glad you killed it, that's what spiders all deserve... death... :barf :skincrawlingemoticon
And yeah... I'm in a state of BLISS knowing I'm taking my baby out to Mines tomorrow!! Hey, wanna go??

LOL I gotta get the Bandit running before other bikes right now. So flippin' frustrated by it; it's been down six weeks!

BTW, Connie, I've been flipping it over in my mind all week and still can't come up with a good reason for it to have failed the way it did. The best I'm coming up with is that the wires from the stator to the connector are slightly undersized and a bit of heat from them and from the connections slowly degraded the connector over time. That wound up allowing the battery to both drain and get ruined by being connected to the stator. In any case, do monitor it for a while.

I have come to the conclusion that Suzuki engineers deliberately spec inferior connectors in the hopes that they will burn out and then they can sell expensive stators, regulator/rectifiers, and batteries. :p

BTW, took the bike out on a couple of test rides today and so far, she's holding out. :thumbup
