This is my first time running Battleax RS10 and the first time where I can physically see separation of differing rubber compound. Center wear indicator still shows there some meat left to her but I am bit leery to take this thing on a 400 miles ride today.

Is this thing still safe or should I toss it?

Your tire is worn out. Are you asking for a guarantee that its safe to continue on for xxx miles? No one can give you that but my 2 cents worth says it's got less than 100 miles left.

Why not just replace it since you are suspicious of it'd safety.

Yep, it's toss it time... For Two Reasons
The multi compounds wear pattern where they meet, makes sketchy handling, as well.

Looks like maybe you wore out the center before the edges? Try the S21 instead

Thanks for the advises. Going to toss the tire despite what the wear indicator say. Got almost 4300 miles from the oem rear tyre so I am pretty happy about that.

What's the longevity on these? I've been finding myself doing a lot of long touring rides than going to the track since I moved back to CA. I don't need elbow dragging tyres but would like something that allows me to have some fun in the canyons when I go through one.

Bridgestone RS10 a trackday tire. 4k miles on a track tire is great.

Tire choices for next time...

* Sport-Touring Tire Choices (For Extra Mileage & Cold/Wet Performance)
AVON Storm ST2, BRIDGESTONE T30, CONTINENTAL Road Attack2, DUNLOP Roadsmart2, METZELER Roadtec Z6 & Z8, MICHELIN Pilot Road4, PIRELLI Angel GT

* Sport Tire Choices (For Extra Dry/Warm Performance)
AVON Viper Sport, BRIDGESTONE S20, CONTINENTAL Sport Attack2, DUNLOP Qualifier Q3, METZELER Sportec M5 & M7, MICHELIN Pilot Power3, PIRELLI Diablo Rosso2 & Rosso Corsa

Interesting list. I guess I'm not a Avon guy. And s20 have been discontinued no?

Probably 5-6k miles. I guess it depends how you ride. I've only used them at the track so far, 3 days I think and they still have some decent life left... The grip and feel is great! Much improved over the old S20 ... I skipped over the S20 EVO however since the S21 was on sale so cheap..

I'd add the Pirelli Angel GT's to the list of sticky, high quality, but also high mileage sport touring tires.

I have had the Pirelli's since they first came out (and were called the Angel ST's) on several different bikes and have had great luck with them for both commuting daily and weekend canyon rides. I ride year round, rain or shine and these tires have been great for both mileage and grip. Wet and dry. I currently have the Gt's on my Honda Superhawk (1000cc V-Twin) and have loved them so far (about 3,000 miles). Love the grip, the feedback and feel and the durability so far.

I also have the Avon Storms on my Ducati ST2 and they have really impressed me as well. Fantastic grip both wet and dry. Even with the hard bags on my bike with cargo in them on Redwood Rd. They seem a little bit heavier overall than the Pirelli's (i.e. a bit less feedback) but have had more miles on them (about 5000) and still look like they've worn very little. I typically ride one bike for a month of commuting about 35 miles roundtrip during the week and then a weekend ride (or two) of roughly 50-200+ miles on the weekends just to give you an idea...
