DiamondBack Mountain Bikes

the weight and frame is not as important as suspension appropriate to your purpose, and well tuned componentry. sorry so many words.

Diamondback mountain bikes have been mediocre until about 6 years ago until made a commitment to produce a higher end mountain bike.

Take the Sortie 1, which is listing for $2400 but you can get for $1700.

versus the Recoil Pro, $1200.

You can compare part specs and it is pretty easy to see the high end Fox suspension and better shifters, etc, on the Sortie. But the most important thing is the frame design.

The Sortie has a more complicated linkage design, which means higher quality machining and forging. The Recoil has the simplest design, called a single-pivot.

Now we can have a long discussion about suspension designs, but when a company puts more money into their frames, it indicates a jump in quality.

I'm a bike snob so I want a high quality bike.

Just pulling out of my left ear, I don't like the pivot or shock mount point on either of those...
putting load into the middle of an already stressed member? sounds floppy.
I want that pivot linkage, one or two point, near the top or bottom of the seat tube, and bottom bracket. I'm not a snob...I don't want to blame the bike if I break my neck.
componentry looks the same as everything else at that price point.
I sell my Gary Fisher Tassajara, this is what I'll buy with the Fox upgrade.. Thats a nice fckn bike..

correction. Dublin Cyclery has a last years Giant Anthem, with the four point Maestro rear linkage. the guy told me that it reduces climb effort and wheel hop on hard downhill braking. Its a large, short wheelbase $1800.

I'm sticking with the Stance.
