i'm looking into buying my son a 50 by next week and am looking at either a 2004 crf50 and a 2003 xr50.

anyone know the difference? is it just the name changing from one year to the next or is there actual differences?

help appreciated!

daniel

mainly name change and graphics, If you can find a used one, the motors are bullet proof. Some other tweeks, but your son won't know the difference;)

sweet, man!

thanx. i think i've made up my mind :thumbup

iirc, only difference was the plastics. Went from one piece (xr) to three pieces (crf). Also some more travel in fork or shock, maybe? imho, not that big of a deal.

cool, thanx!

my son will most likely have a bike by this weekend then :)

WE HAVE XR50!!!!!

just paid for it, and now i have questions.

my son isn't real tall, but about average height. i know the hondas run a bit higher than the other makes, can they be lowered if needed?

anything i should be warned, concerned about having my son ride it?

and what about maintenance? what kind of routines do you have on yours? remember this is for my 5 yr old so he's not going to be real rough with it...at least not yet :cool

cool!

yup. i had wanted to get him something since he was 3, but the lady, she puteth teh smacketh down.

so i told her, fine. i'll wait till he gets the hang of riding a bicycle real good and then we'd be in business.

soo00oo, here we are :cool

gotta get the service manual for this thing.

i thought the difference was in the tranny no? isnt one of em like an auto and the other is somethin else...somethin like that

either way, your little tyke is sure to have fun no matter what! :thumbup

I put my kids on them at 4. Now my 2 yo wants to be like his big brothers, but I keep him on the quad.
I wasn't aware of the plastics difference, but the engine and tranny are the same between the xr and CRF. It was simply marketing.

4? WOW :wow

did you get them training wheels or did you work with them on learning the gearing and all?

so far my son's done ok. i just kinda have to hold the tail of the bike as he rides, but that shit gets tiring fast!!!
