Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

he's talkin about focusing on the subject...

Yes I understood that. He is taking landscape pictures. I assume if his pictures are out of focus he might be shooting wide open (or bigger aperture) which would narrow his focus plane. Increasing his focus plane by narrowing his aperture would help.

Tenba Shootout size medium. It carries pretty much everything I need, and it has a relatively square profile that gives you full depth across the whole width of the bag.

I definitely need to organize mine better though, it's all full of flashes and PocketWizards and junk instead of big-ass lenses like this:

BTW, if anyone needs cheap stands (and maybe tripods), the family/store with these CL ads might be good to check out:

Apparently they're importing a variety of things from China... I bought two light stands from them for $30 and $20, IIRC. Quality is a step down from Bogen, but definitely usable and *cheap*.

<ETA>

Since I only know how to find them on CL and posts go away, here's the contact info and the search string:

Wow, those guys are still around? They must be more legitimate than I expected. Cool.

I need another good light stand, I've got two right now and I'm always cursing the older one for being so short and wobbly. It fell during a wedding once, right across a fully set table, china and wineglasses and everything. :|

But my flash was okay :banana

I got those stands from them in October, I think. Prolly can't get a BARF discount from them but they'll remember me: they were surprised that I rolled up on a bike and took 'em with me.)

Do those bags come with those nice lenses? I can carry everything I need in my messenger bag, or if I'm just driving somewhere, put my 2nd lens in my jacket pocket

I'm sure Keeble and Shuchat would hook you up!

This is crazy, I was just going to post a question about bags! What luck.

I'm thinking about buying the LowePro Slingshot (?) bag that Costco has been pimping for the last few months at $67. I might be in the "know" when it comes to camera bags but that seems #%@! expensive!

Seems like it would be marginally better than the Targus laptop bag I've been using, as it would be easier to "sling" the bag around and, er, whip it out.

But $67... wtf.

Dunno which that bag is, but that sounds cheap. Compare with b&h?

I'd go with the Slingshot without any hesitation, if I could fit all my shit into one of them. By the time you get to the Slingshot 300, you might as well get a regular pack. And $67 is a good price. It'll protect your gear, and keep it accessible whenever you need it. Most of the bigger packs are north of $200.

Hmm, maybe you are right. I played around with it in the store, it seems really well thought out ergonomically. Construction felt top notch, especially the zippers which were smooth and seemed durable.

I'm just being a cheap-ass right now and would rather put $67 into a long, fast macro/prime. Right now I can only go to 70mm (DX) with my kit lens.

Can someone please explain to me that my SB600 is extremely versatile and I really don't need to buy a second flash. Sometimes looking at the Strobist stuff is demoralizing because they have a ton (read: $$$) of equipment!

dont look into strobist then. :cool:cool
cause ur good enough and people like you as stewart smalley would say it.

I have one, does its job and not too much$$:)

Im still learning how to use it. Few sample photos (not so good)

All photos were taken with the D300, first two is with the Nikon 17-55mm and the last one is the 50mm 1.8. The flash is set to TTL rear/slow with flash head tilted up.
