Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

Aw, thanks man!

Well, tis already on it's way. And of course, after searching through CL and getting no responses from the 1 person selling this lens, I see an ad for one just down the road, for $150. Doh!

And yeah, didn't know about the F1.0, I've been using the Canon list as my reference. Interestingly, San Jose Camera said they didn't stock the 28-105 as it's 'too old'. Hmm. Seems to review well for a cheap lens tho.

With the full frame, now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just get the 85L prime instead of the 24-70L, but the flexibility appeals if I'm spending that much.

If I had a bottomless pit of cash, I'd have both. I might end up with both, but only after the Mayans say they earth is going to end anyway :rofl

yikes, 24-7L and 85L that should be a great setup...
i wouldn't buy at local retailers, they just kinda over price
their stuff. I buy my stuff at BH or adorama, no tax and
sometimes free shipping!..unless there's really a super great
deal that I can't pass on...the only local photo store i bought
from was Bear Images, bought think tank stuff from them.

Joebar, rent the lens 24-70L over the holidays...i just picked up
the 35 1.4L and hehehe i get to keep it until the 4th of next year.
this should do me bout' four photoshoot...

Yeah, that's looking MIGHTY tempting. Might have to pull the trigger on that later today...

And yeap, got the biddy lens from BH, and it's where I got some trick (and cheap) little barn doors and gels for my Edison fitting strobes. Cute and cheap! Tho I feel I may need some Alienbees to add to my pair of adjustable Interfit's.

FYI, dunno if it's still going on, but San Jose Camera had a 'we pay the tax' this weekend, and knocked 100 off their usual price for the Canon, hence me getting the 5D Mk2 for 2599, all-in...!

we should organize a barf camera whore shoot or something...hahaha...

very very very nice!..

Do want :drool

The missus would kill me for adding another 2K to it right now... lol!

We should have another BARF shoot. The one with Ana was fun, but not enough space, not enough triggers, one model ain't enough.

I was contemplating buying a few more receivers for my remote, and my friend Doug just got the same kind, so it's possible we could have 2 discrete, non-slaved lighting/backdrop setups in his hooooge garage, and get 2 models (or more!) and then we could probably keep 6 photographers busy more easily. Especially if Steve brings his Alienbees :teeth

hmp...maybe winter clothing on the railroad? message being its winter time, travel time...
or bikini shoot at the creek?..

Unfortunately, Ana is too busy to shoot these days, and Emily has moved into paying gigs only as she's also busy and can only justify it to help her pay through school.

But, here are some potentials - MIGHT be NSFW, but should be OK unless you're a member (adult content SHOULD be hidden, but you've been warned in case of screw-ups):

I don't think there's many others that would do it for fun, only if paid, or for a specific theme or where they know they'll get something for their portfolio.

I'd be down. I've got my 4 Alienbees and the battery pack to shoot anywhere.

I really haven't been shooting much lately. Just been super lazy in general, that and too much Call of Duty haha. I've been taking online lessons with lynda.com for photoshop, really starting to expand my post process knowledge. And to start forcing myself to go out and shoot more, I'm thinking of doing one of those 365 project starting next year

So what would I need to be able to make use of the lighting? I have an external flash and that's it.

just know how, ive seen some pretty extraordinary shots with just a simple off cam flash. u can probably invest in some pocket wiz, if u havent thought about it.

You can borrow a trigger. I now have mine, and Doug's to borrow. Just sits in the hot-shoe, and the receiver plugs into any strobe with a 3.5mm jack. And I have adaptors for 2.5 and 1/4" jacks.
