I recently looked at my dtv bill and noticed that they are charging me about $7 for a "protection plan". I immediately called and asked them to cancel it. To my knowledge, I have never signed up for a protection plan ever.
I just found my original equipment lease addendum and I did not check or sign the line requesting the plan. As a matter of fact, I wrote "NO" on the signature line.
Going back over receipts, I see 26 months of $7 charges.
Should I call dtv and complain and ask for my money back?
Anyone with a similar issue?

Yes!!!
ATT business phone does the same shit. What might happen is you call and theyll happily cancel you but will refuse to refund what they stole prior. Ask them like three times and then demand to speak to a manger. They will transfer you to someone who sounds like theyre on a different continent. You will then get everything back. They will also say some lawyer nonsense real quick like at the end of car leasing commercials before they hang up.

YMMV

Yeah, you'll have to escalate to a manager, but they'll likely refund you. Just threaten to leave. If all else fails, google the number for their retention department, they can make good on it.

I'm just about done with DirecTV myself - I've been waiting 3 years for a new HD Tivo box, and they just keep slipping it.

If Comcast wasn't the devil incarnate, I'd just get the latest cablecard Tivo box and be done with it. Damned either way, I guess.

close to a couple hundred bucks right there. fuck yeah i'd demand it back.

After 6 years with DirecTV I'd finally had enough of their shenanigans and switched to Comcast. I've been very happy with the level of service that Comcast has provided. Installation was quick and free, and we're getting a lot more programming for the same price we were paying at DirecTV. Comcast has a bad reputation, I know, but after doing the research they just offered more and apparent better quality for the same price. DirecTV tried to retain me but by then it was too little too late.

Ironically it came down to them not wanting to upgrade me to their new DVR either, after almost a year of trying to get it. I could have it for $400 or so, but I said nowai. I used to get the NHL Center Ice package every year, and I used to order 4 or 5 UFC pay per view events per year as well.

They took my threats to leave as empty threats, until I actually called with a cancellation request. Sorry, but by then its too late.

Just got off the phone with customer service.
30 min of, I did not order this, I did not authorize this, you cannot add something to my bill without authorization, my paper copy says NO.
And I got $174 credit...

I don't mind directv. I just don't appreciate the 300lb. mofo they sent over to do the install. Idiot put his foot through my ceiling 3 times!:thumbdown

I did the exact same thing with DirecTV when they wouldn't give me a DVR, but I regretted going to Comcast. :(

You get their introductory offer, then they double your rates when it's over. I have their triple play deal for $99, but it went to $189 after the six or 12 mo deal was over. They told me I could just renew the deal, which they let me do once, but not a 2nd time. My bill is different every month because they stagger the end dates of each option they give you. Your HBO special ends one month then reverts to a new rate. Starz on a different month. Your deal with phone service on another. Then each year the price goes up. :mad

I was told by Direct tv years ago that they would not go in the attic to do cable drops? I guess it was good that i did it myself.:laughing I went to Comcast years ago because ATT sucked for intrawebz service.

That's exactly why I cancelled Comcast, and we just do without cable now. We do Netflix discs + streaming, and Hulu Plus. Between that and YouTube, I can watch everything I want and then some.

Hulu Plus is $8 a month. Between that and an OTAHD antenna, we get all the TV we need.

Is there a way to get HBO without using cable or dish?
