Just wondering if any of you know what the layover time would be between submitting a request for a title transfer and getting the title within California?

I'm trying to buy a Honda S2000 and the guy who's selling it is a friend of the original owner whom which is away on business and needs to sell the car. Apparently he went to the DMV after sending the guy the title and getting it back and its been a week and a half so far. The only problem I'm having is my loan is going to expire on the 17th of February.

I tried looking on the dmv's site in the faq section and just overall google the question but I'm not getting a direct enough answer and I've yet to buy a vehicle in the past few years so I have no Idea how long these things take to process. I just don't wanna waste any more time than I have available to me.

I think he can go to the DMV with you and do paperwork there. I think.

If anything he might be able to expedite the Title by paying a fee but that I'm not even sure of.

I don't think we can do any of the paperwork there being its a loan and my loan officer would have to be present. Kind of sucks to have to go through a bank but not very many people keep this kind of money just laying around lol.

Took 9 months once for CA to issue me a new title.

No ownership change, either.

:laughing

Did the owner lose the title? You can do title transfer and a lost title form at the same time (I've done it before), but I guess that probably wouldn't fly with the loan officer, huh? :dunno

Probably not. The title is actually a friend to friend transfer which goes down as a sale in they're books even though he technically gifted it I believe to avoid fees & taxes.

I just applied for a duplicate title for our RV we are going to sell. i was told by the agent at the desk 4-6 weeks . hellooo can't they put a title printing printer in each office.. (ok i know special paper etc but still)

Why does your loan officer need a title? How about getting an auto broker involved for a fee? How much is the car? How much do you have for a down payment?

The car is $13k and I'm putting up a $3k downpayment.. My interest rate is super low with the credit union that's why I'm waiting it out. Not to mention the transition from the original owner to his friend. I wanna make sure everything is legit before a check is cut.

Even if its at the cost of my loan expiring and me having to reapply again. Theres not many cars being posted so it's not really "hurting" me to wait. With the rain though I am getting a bit impatient as I'm driving the damn SUV everywhere.:thumbdown

Call your credit union and explain the situation. They'll likely extend the offer. They dont want to lose your business.

I got some help from a friendly barfer. It's going down tomorrow should the car pass the smog check. :) I just have to pay two $18 dmv fees and fill out an extra form with the seller.

I <3 BARF :)

pics of the car, the check, and the loan officer or it didn't happen :x
