DMV renewal tests

I renewed last saturday along with the wife. 61 years old, clean record. Decided to get the Real ID too. DMV said they'll renew by mail twice, then you have to show up in person. Filled out the form online checked for appts. Nothing till January. Someone told the wife just do walkin on Saturday afternoon. Sounds crazy but it worked! Checked wait times online, Hayward was 5 minutes. Jumped in the car, shot over there at 1:00. 20 people in the lobby line, DMV worker explains everything, (make sure to fill out form online first and bring a printout.) Sent to the waiting area chairs, 10 minutes later, walked up, showed all the documents, eye test, told clerk to make sure I get M1 too. 5 minutes later sent to photo line, pic taken, Bam! outta there. Wife was taken couple of minutes after me. Entire time since walking in, 45 minutes.

Looks like Newsance firing the head of DMV as job #1 sent a clear message...

If you are turning 66 years old, you have to re-take the Eye Test. Ironically, I was convinced that drivers were now Required to be legally blind. Like part of the CDLs for Anyone Program.

Scariest place to ride/drive? The DMV parking lot in Daly City!

I renewed by mail in August of 2018 at the age of 69. No eye test, license is good for 5 years.

btw, when I renewed my license this week and switched to Real ID, both drivers and motorcycle written test was waived. Oddly, the last time I renewed my license, I had to take both tests.
