Do I Have The Herp?

Shave in the shower after you wash your hair, give your pores time to open up. I have to shave like that because my facial hair is just too thick. I destroy the 4 blade kind in like 4 shaves. I switched to a single blade old school type of razor( the one that you put the razor into) and it works just as good as the multi blade kind. If you are sweating or getting your face dirty after you shave though, you're kind of out of luck.

Gillette Fusion Proglide is what works for me. A blade lasts a week, maybe two but thats less comfortable. Unfortunately they're also the most expensive blades.

A quick perusal of the innerwebs says:

Salicylic acid is the active substance that can visibly improve razor bumps. It is a dermatological-grade ingredient that exfoliates, moisturizes, clears pores and can help prevent infection. Use a post-shave product with salicylic acid so it remains on your skin the whole day.

Use only a non-acnegenic shaving cream specially formulated for sensitive skin, with lots of lubricating agents (foam-based shaving creams can dry and irritate your skin).

Do not use any product that has alcohol, it will seriously worsen ingrown hairs by drying the skin and closing the pores.

Exfoliate. Daily use of a gentle face scrub with glycolic and salicylic acid is particularly effective.

Use a soft-bristle face brush and liquid cleanser in a circular motion on your beard to dislodge the tips of ingrown hairs, eliminate dead skin cells and clear follicles to allow hairs to surface unimpeded.

Shaving too closely is one of the triggers for razor bumps. Hair stubs cut too closely will get trapped inside the hair follicle and dig inward or sideways. Don't worry, the disappearance of unsightly ingrown hairs will more than make up for the "five-o'clock shadow" appearance.

To avoid shaving too close, don't pull the skin when you shave; don't put too much pressure on the blades; shave with the grain and use a single-blade razor.

You will need to maintain this approach over time, as one extra-close shave will be enough to cause a recurrence of ingrown hairs that will take weeks to heal.
I'll look into an aftershave with the acid stuff you talked about :thumbup
If its that close to your lip, just pluck the damn thing. I mean shit if women can pluck their brows, man the fuck up and pluck a few hairs you damn nancy.....
Reading comp fail, i know how to get rid of them, i want to stop getting them in the first place

Which razor did you buy?

Salicylic acid

Over the counter acne treatment.

Also the main ingredient in Compound W...yeah, for warts.

Get a mirror and shave in the shower like someone else suggested.
I've been doing it for years.
Shampoo hair, use shampoo from your head as shaving lubricant, never buy shaving cream again.

Don't shave against the grain.

It's not like you have a girlfriend who cares if your face is smooth.
It's only smooth for about 15 minutes anyway.

Shave after your shower. Shave first with the grain, then second pass at 90 degrees (as opposed to against). Using an organic frou-frou shave gel instead of whatever chemical giant spray foam also helps, but I do seem to get a closer shave with the big name foam (and more irritation). Rinse well with COLD water, pat face/neck dry with CLEAN towel. No aftershave products needed.

That approach practically eliminated my ingrown hairs and shave bumps and skin sensitivity or razorburn. The sacrifice of 1/10 mm in shave closeness was way worth it.

Nope, but sure as shit looks like I do. Ingrown hair right above my lip, seems like I get at least one every time I shave now. What's the best way to stop getting ingrown hairs without lasering my face?

Grow a 70s moustache and become a pron star, extenz is your friends.
