Do You Have A Nanny?

You haven't heard of idiots calling in sick because they want to hit the slopes or something like that?

Plus she has an under the table job, not one where sick is combined with PTO she can use for any reason

Hahaha.

Sick days are used at my discretion. What I do with my day is irrelevant.

Perhaps it's a "sick of work" day.

I remember calling in sick to bone all day. Good times. Need to get back into that.

Daycare is sounding a lot easy and cheaper right now.

in a day care you will be most possibly be paying for the PTO BTW. (not sure about sick of course, b/c they could have > 1-2 employees to rotate) So .. :dunno

but cheaper vs not-cheaper, that's a good decision :)

Sick pay for a part-time worker after only 5 months? And under the table to boot? .

.. however, this... ^^^

Sure, today's California jobs have PTO, where doing what you describe is OK.

But other states vary.

I'm old-school, most of my work experience happened in places and times where sick time was accounted for separately, and was supposed to be used for legitimate sickness or doctor visits.

Getting back to the topic, this woman is being paid under the table anyway. Demanding benefits is a big LOL

Do you extend any benefits to your nanny like sick time and vacation?

Do you reimburse driving expense?

How do you pay your nanny? Under the table, W2?

We have a 20 hour a week Nanny for our 5 month old and she recently asked for sick pay, which we are having a probem with. When she is sick, we have too figure out a backup-plan to watch our son and that could really be like paying for the same work twice. Being it part time work, usually benefits are not

We are paying under the table because W2 sounds like a real pain in the ass and the would probably want more if she was paying taxes.

Daycare is sounding a lot easy and cheaper right now.

If you are paying under the table, you are in a really bad position. Have you considered the penalties involved for what you are currently doing? The consequences could change your life to the point that worrying about a nanny or day care might be small items in comparison.

Your nanny decides after some time that you abused them. They call the IRS. You are done. First, your nanny, regardless of immigration status, if that is an issue, becomes a non-issue as they will gain protections you couldn't begin to get for yourself. Then, computers will start adding up things and depending on the charges against you, your freedom could be in question.

Why do people do this? Yes, a lot of employment for nannies and such isn't reported. No, the IRS and FTB don't make it a priority, UNTIL someone files a complaint. Then, it becomes a priority because you as the employer took advantage of someone needing a job and the pile on has no limits.

I had to comment on this thread. It just shook my head until I had a stroke or a hangover. I am not sure, yet.

It is a perfect reflection of our current INSANE society. There tends to be a "liberal" bent in this part of the world. There is lots of snubbing of elitists, and rich people. This is a "Sanctuary State" with enormous taxes to support social programs. And MOONBEAM is the Governor. YET, we are talking about slave labor. WTF :wow

unlikely as they haven't been paying taxes either

Wait, I think you're complaining that California is Liberal (and something about Moonshine) ... so you hate it, BUT the OP is NOT being "a Liberal" enough, so... you hate that, too???

What's the relation between Moonshine and nannies??? :confused

For real. Reli have you never once called in sick one time for anything other then not being “sick”
I call bullshit if you say you haven’t

I know you weren't asking me, but I've never done that. Vacation days are for vacation. Sick days are for being sick. I've taken 3 sick days in the last 8 years. Lucky to be healthy...

((((commence slow clap))))).:twofinger
you sound like the perfect company man

Sure it is. Nanny runs to IRS and all they have to say is that they took the money under the table because they had no other choice. The IRS isn't going to ding the nanny, they will however be more than thrilled to go after the person who hired them.

Nanny all weepy eyed asking for help from an IRS agent, hiring person handed to them on a platter. Think the IRS cares if the nanny didn't pay taxes? The IRS pays rewards for turning people in, the nanny comes out smelling like a rose.

I have a family member working for the IRS (job is to raid businesses for tax evasion issues), this stuff happens often. Employee squeals and it doesn't matter if they paid taxes or not, they are golden so long as they testify. Illegal immigrant? No sweat, that gets fixed for them too.

Report tax evasion, get citizenship.

Noted.

Are you referring to future adult care? If so, I know way too much about that. :|

lol - not ready for that yet. we both just work ridiculously long hours, don’t eat right, and have a hard time keeping up with the basics of managing our household. we joke that we need a mom to move in and take care of us (but we’re only partically joking).

I didn't realize honesty would be met with scorn and sarcasm. I've never had a job with an allowance for mental health days. I believe in the importance of mental health, but I don't think that's was sick days are intended for in general. Perhaps they are by some employers. I'm in healthcare. My work attendance has nothing to with the "company".

do nanny's have an age limit? my SO and i could really use someone to take care of us.

how is it that you can read my mind?
I want a nanny on call for those moments/minutes/hours/days/weeks that I am in need of extra care.

Sorry to hit you in the feels Tyler.. my mou has no stipulations on what constitutes as a “sick” day. So mental health has nothing to do with being “sick”

I thought that someones mind has a lot to do with work performance and how you feel.

Why would an employer want you at work if you’re dealing with something traumatic and can’t perform “mentally.” Maybe you know something I don’t :)
