We put more than one rider in CALSTAR & Stanford LifeFlight (not at the same time) in the field behind STP; ( at the time, it was the brown dirt looking lot, not the pretty green one. Fast forward in time- I suspect they can get into the green lot now with the EC-135/145 having smaller rotor diameter of the Bell 222's in use back then.)It really is hard to comprehend the wackiness of that time.
I think I only went on three or four of the rides, the last one I went on there must have been at least 75 people there, and Bud bandit had friends that he called on to be leads and we broke up into about five or six groups. I don't know maybe there were more, we pretty much filled the parking lot at the store across the street from Alice's.
By then I was able to spot the people who were going to crash on the ride, before we even left. I don't think I ever saw anybody get helicoptered or take an ambulance, so it just didn't seem too bad. On the other hand, I sure as hell did not want to crash myself. I don't think I ever saw less than two people crash in MY, group on a ride.
BB's frustration level was usually about 12 before we were able to even get out of the parking lot... It was amazing that he continued to doing it for as long as he did... Hats off to a real Trooper
Fun times for sure, wouldn't have missed it for anything.
