Does Wearing a One-Piece on the Road Make You Look Like a Goober?

So I'm shopping around for some new gear that offers more protection and is more functional than the Bilt crap I have now. I've narrowed it down to two options:

1. Buy separately pants and a jacket, or
2. Buy a one-piece suit

I believe the onesie will offer better protection and comfort than a jacket/pants combo, and I basically already have a jacket and pants, so they would be replacing things I could still use. Buying a onesie might be a better deal as well. So really it boils down to the titular question. Is there potential for looking like a dork? :|

When I commute, I wear a yellow Aerostich with an even brighter yellow SaferMoto high vis vest. I'm sure I look like a complete 'tard but fuckit, you saw me, didn't you. :laughing

One piece leathers are a bit of a commitment, you are going for a ride and nothing else. Stopping at restaurant in 1 piece leathers - it's hard not to be a little self-conscious. If you have a zip together jacket, you can at least remove the jacket and blend in.

So I'd recommend a good two piece set of leathers, or a 'stich.

The difference in protection between 360 (or 270) zip jacket/pants and a 1 piece of the same quality is pretty much 0.

Who cares? You ride a motorcycle. Instant coolness points no matter your outfit. :cool

3. Two piece suit that zips together.

:rolleyes Didn't even think of that. I should go hit up Cyclegear when I can.

I was planning on using it for riding and only riding, I can just wear the crap I have now for a quick jaunt into town.

Is there any functional difference between a one piece and jacket/pants combo that zips together?

Ah, dang. Beat me to it. That's good to know though, although that begs the question, what IS the difference? Comfort?

Why do you give a rats ass about the opinions of others while you ride? Let alone those that see you when you arrive to your given destination?

Wear what's comfortable and within your budget.

A two piece would be easier to get out of, especially if you're trying to slip into a shitter to take a dump.

if youre as sexy as me you wouldnt worry about it

wear gear and remain.sexy

You think they pay people to design them to look stupid? :laughing Everyone cares what they look like. I'm just wondering as a way of helping along a decision, no worries.

There's not much I can add after ^that^.

If they fit well, there's no difference. I went through various combos until I found stuff that fits.

I really need to take a picture of me in my Aerostich and hi vis vest. You will never again think you look like a dork. :rofl

Fortunately my bike is fucking gorgeous so no one notices me.

2 piece is easier to take a dump in, or generally get into/out of. Has some overlap, so it likely weighs a hair more. Probably costs a hair more. Has more zippers that can potentially fail.

I am very happy with an RS Taichi two piece...fits very nicely, super comfortable, can take off the jacket even when I'm at the track. I'm not dedicated enough for a 1 piece and definitely do not want to wear one on the road due more to inconvenience, not looking weird

And the overlapping material can bunch up around the middle, especially if you have an aggressive riding position.

Oh, and dude, stop calling them "onesies". :laughing

Would you use it for commuting and everyday riding too, or just trips and recreational or stuff on the weekends?

Specifically for like day-long rides. I ride for hours at a time. To me, it doesn't seem appropriate to wear my Bilt jacket and urban camo BDU pants. That's more commuting type stuff to me because they're comfy but not exactly great in the protection department. I DO however always wear my Stryker chest/back armor because I'll be damned before I'm stuck in a wheelchair unable to get it up :teeth

And knee armor, right? 'Cause, ya know, knee guards are cheap and could keep you off crutches, unable to walk...
