DoorDash Exploiting Covid?

I was about to order some stromboli online for pickup. Yelp automatically uses door dash or grub hub. I can't remember which.

The order came out to just over $90 FOR ME TO PICK IT UP.

I just called it in and the total was about $40.

I don't use delivery services anymore, and i only order online if it's not through some 3rd party service.

I was a door dash delivery guy and fuck that company right in the hole.

I was only doing it because it was a fun and easy way for my to make money while riding my moto. The pay wasn't great but since i could make more deliveries per hr since i'm on moto and had no gas or maintenance costs it was... more decent.

The amount you get per order is usually between 4-8 bucks without tip and some days i would not get tipped at all, some days the tips were good, so after work for 4 hour i could make $60-150.

i miss doing it actually but since covid I've been trying to reduce contact and what not so i dont catch the rona. The cut they take from the restaurants and customers is insane.

They need to have a new service that is more like a non profit. Have the drivers put a $100 bucks down of their own money to sign up so that if they flake and take food or something it comes out of that fund, The restaurants make money on their food orders, the customers pays a fee for the driver ($9) and a small fee to use the service to maintain servers($1).

Talk about a shit company... Yelp. Extortionist sheisters. The reviews are absolutely useless and if you have a legit gripe, the business can have it taken down. There are absolute crap business out there with stellar Yelp reviews and probably vice versa.

Tips... if you don't tip your delivery driver, you suck.

Back in Montreal before I moved here in 2007, delivery was always through the restaurant, you tipped, always, and the prices weren't inflated.

I've basically stopped ordering in in San Francisco...the cost difference is huge between picking it up and delivery.

I have literally stopped ordering delivery anyplace except shitty pizza chains that still have their own driver network. Which I almost never order.

I just pick up now.

Now, this would seem to be a normal reaction.

I suppose that if I never use the $50 coupon, DD will just keep the money eventually. I wanted two pizzas and it would be cheaper for me to just buy them directly than to use DD with their coupon. Maybe I can get a burger.

OK, but one had to be careful in this gig economy. Tip the driver in cash. Seems some of these apps that allow tipping won't give the delivery person the whole tip. And fuck tipping the company.
