So I can no longer have alcohol and am stuck with non-alcoholic beer, which is pretty lame.

Then I though of a possible upside. I could possibly drink "beer" and drive. So is that legal? Would it just be begging for the wrong kind of attention?

There are some legitimate alcohol-free beers out there, but good luck finding them. Your best shot is anywhere there's a large Islamic population.

Henry Weinhard's root beer. You'll thank me later.

IANALEO. IAAMathGeek.

Michelob Amber Bock has 5.20% ABV. O'Douls Amber has 0.50% ABV. 10 O'Douls to 1 Michelob, roughly.
Looking at the DMV charts that come with your registration, for someone weighing 130-189 lbs, 1 drink in an hour is maybe DUI, 2 drinks is likely DUI, and 3 drinks is definitely DUI.
Coming back from Thunderhill takes 2-3 hours, lets say 3 so it makes it easier to make an assumption from the chart. You could drink 20 O'Douls on the way home and still be in the .01%-.04% area of the chart. Could you still be impaired? Maybe. I suppose you need to evaluate how alcohol affects you. I'll bet if you're anything other than .00% and the cop pulls you over for erratic driving you could still get a DUI.

The question isn't about DUI, but about 23220 through 23222 VC which addresses drinking and possessing open alcohol containers in a vehicle.

So is a "non-alcoholic" beer considered an open alcohol container if it has a small percentage of alcohol (.5%)?

You really need to ask this to discover an answer? :shocker

Don't be a dick.

Hey I didn't call him anything. I was merely making a suggestion.

Anywho, the alcohol content is so low in a NA beer that its not classified as an alcoholic beverage. Any beverage with less than %0.5 abv is considered non alcoholic. Most of the NA beers have less than that but they just lable their product with "less than 0.5%"

I was told that it's still considered an open container but it would be a pretty chicken shit ticket.

I still drink NA beer. Not a big fan of soda either and you can only drink so much water and coffee.

Old Milwaukee in a can is still better then green O'Dool's and Kaliber by Guinness is the still the best overall but it's tough to find. Ginger beer's good but it's expensive.

There's more alcohol in a glass of orange juice :wtf

Not worth the risk for me. Just pull over, get out of the vehicle and slam one.
