I'm thinking of getting this.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/mcy/1278024387.html

Are all those perks the good stuff? I don't want to buy some secret bogger that just has a lot of crap thrown on it. What kind of stuff should I be looking for and/or expecting w/ something like this?

Thanks guys.

I would be skeptical as to why somebody would dump a bunch of money into rebuilding a motor, only to sell it without even riding it that much.

Does it say what year it is? Otherwise looks pretty good. Check carefully when you see it in person. Good luck!

The price is a bit on the high side, but if it's REALLY clean it might be worth it. Seems odd that he doesn't know that the kit he had installed makes it a 434, not a 435cc bike. Oh well...

There was one for sale cheap in Cupertino 3-5 weeks ago that had a big bore and cams, would idle but would die when the throttle was opened (according to the ad). I don't remember exactly but something like $3500.

I considered looking at it, thinking that it could be something simple as the cam timing being off but then again cam timing off could mean all kinds of other damage.

This could possibly be the same bike, especially with the seller quoting cam timing.

Hopefully the seller is forthcoming with the truth.

I agree with tlthehun that this may be the same bike. Hell, the issue could have been as simple as jetting, or much more serious as tlthehun eluded suggested. I would definitely beware.

I wouldnt be skeptical of the seller. Im pretty much in the same boat, did pretty much the same mods and some more. Didnt ride it all that much, and now have a new bike that gets all my attention.

Seems like a decent deal to me.

Were it on BARF I would be less skeptical. I, however, am skeptical of EVERYONE on CL. This is a learned behavior and exists for good reason. Just my two cents....

Bone, the guy that posted that ad is on barf. he sent me a PM and explained the entire thing.

Now i'm just wondering if I want to take on a type of project like that. It seems like i'd be workin' on the motor a lot since there is a lot of things that could go wrong.

... so, i'm still torn.

Ahhh ok. I thought it was a CL post. If the 434 kit was installed correctly there shouldn't be any reliability issues to worry about. I still think that $5k is a bit high, considering you will most likely spend some money and time getting the suspension sorted out. I always have to wonder when I see a DRZ with so many speed mods (engine, FCR carb, etc) and stock suspension. The money I spent on the suspension of my DRZ was by far the best money I spent on it. The FCR carb is sweet as well, but it will make it suck down quite a bit more fuel. Worth it for the added throttle response, in my opinion.

If the bike is running well now, I would think that $4500 would be a pretty good price. Use the extra $500 that you save and have the suspension dialed-in. If you're more than 150 pounds, the stock fork springs are simply not going to cut it for you. I am a fatass, so I had mine re-sprung and re-valved, and went to a stiffer rear spring. As I said before, that is money VERY well spent. I got my springs from Cannon RaceCraft and had the work done at Catalyst Reaction. There are a few good suspension folks around, many of whom have experience with these bikes. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing. The DRZ is a good bike, and I would miss mine were I not having so much fun on my 690 :)

I may pickup that salvaged bike, to save the $$$ now and just throw on stuff that I want over time. I'm not purchasing this bike w/ the thought of selling it anytime (i'd just run it into the ground), so the salvage title shouldn't bother me... but it does, slightly.

hmmmm, decisions decisions...

:laughing aren't most? I kiiiiiid!!!! :kiss

Def a 2007 per the red bodywork, btw. :cool

Yana:banana

Ride and stock one and you'll realize why hes put so much work into it :laughing

Suspension on DRZ isn't too bad, since there is more room to play with, as compared to the sport bikes. And you need some speed to keep that baby comfortable on CA freeway speeds. :laughing

I thought that until I took mine to the track. WOW. It was like riding a pogo stick. As I said, I am a big guy. If you are smaller, it won't be quite as bad. Still...definitely worth throwing some money at.

I ended up picking up the salvage titled one :)
