I got confirmation from Gilchrist in Washington that the previous sales rep I spoke with was incorrect and that their vehicles are all 50 state compliant. This opens the doors to negotiating harder locally or do a fly and drive. In Washington I can get a full loaded LTZ for $49k or a fully loaded Denali for $49k (but has the short bed). The LTZ and Denali are similar but have two main differences: electronic step and magnetic ride. I think for the price I am going to opt for the magnetic ride. I reached out inquiring if he could get a similar priced Denali in the standard box.
Local guy only wanted to do $8k off...and I think it's bull shit but they wanted to charge taxes and fees before discounting which I was under impression that rebates are after tax but the dealer discount was before tax. Can you confirm, Stan?
You are correct, dealer discounts are always before tax, and some dealer rebates are after tax. It gets a little grey because of how they stack the dealer rebates.
8K off sounds like they are waiting for suckers to come and buy. That's the problem with bay area dealers, dealers no longer need to 'cut a deal' to sell a car/truck. They know another guy right around the corner is ready to buy at whatever price they sell.
I would still look up prices on LauraGMC and go from there. Their prices on their website is what you should be looking at shooting for.
I took my family of 4 on a family trip to Oregon in our truck and it was awesome. The truck handled everything beautifully. If I were you, and had the time and found a dealer willing to match or beat lauraGMC prices, then a fly and drive home would be ideal.
