Dumb-assed change to schools, they must start later in the morning.

And that's where motor officers come in, ideally.

We live next to the northern station traffic division HQ. I used to roll out on my FZ1 every morning with the motor shift on my way to work. Sitting behind 4-6 BMWs with cops riding them was slightly intimidating since my pipe was a tad loud.

Watching 3-4 people roll through the intersection on the solid-ass red, forcing the cops to check up, yet watching them fail to respond in any way, was disheartening.

Growing up in Marin with a lot of enforcement and we-know-who-you-are local PD forced me to be fairly observant of basic traffic laws. Coming to the big city and seeing this was seriously WFT.

There's a bit more of a moto culture here and nobody bats an eye at motos cutting across a sidewalk or jumping a medium unless they are inconvenienced. Motor cops actually wave and fully look the other way when you are geared up and riding a non-hooligan machine. At bike night LE often mingles with 1% types and they all seem pretty buddy buddy. :wtf

They still had to get their morning coffee.

Speaking of big cities...just got back from vacationing in NYC. Talk about not giving a fuck about traffic laws. :laughing. Both the vehicles and pedestrians alike. It was common for all but the busiest of streets for pedestrians to cross whenever. Nevermind what the light says.

That being said, always love being able to get around anywhere efficiently by walking and subway.

I am really curious how often people posting in this thread walk or ride a bike anywhere regularly for errands or non pleasure purposes. Once a week? Once a month? Be honest how often are you good old boys hoofing it to the bank or grocery store?

Constantly. Having a car in downtown San Francisco is insanity. When you are downtown, you walk to do everything.

:dunno

No way is Eldy showing off more in this thread, than me...

:laughing That time I rolled to "the grocery store" by bike and I had tourists ask me "You look local", "where is the Full House"

"Pretty much" always get my burrito by bike. ;)

The trail behind my house was a Rails-to-Trails project. ...
I walk or cycle to get groceries and household goods, the rare visit to the bank, get a haircut and other errands. ...

You and you people with your flat cities... come to think of it I did get my haircut going by bike the last times, too! :laughing

But I secretly hate going shopping by bike because you always come back sweaty, and secretly love it, because.. you ride a bike.

Wait, a bicycle? What am I fucking 12? I have a mountain bike, I never ride it.

I mob around the mission on foot quite a bit some weekends. I think it’s great. S.F. is a wonderfully walkable place. And yes I have shuffled cars a few times. Parking is a sport :laughing

I walk and run in our neighborhood and surrounding areas all the time. We have one busy 4 lane but two solid crosswalks to where we never had a concern letting our kids bike to the elementary school on the other side.

Different issue with middle and high school as the route goes near freeway on/off ramps, but there is at least one route that is pretty safe. That said, I see kids on the way to/from school all the time that seem destined to get hit.

I also walk a lot when I work/play pool in SF. I think the suburbs are worse than city because of the speed and lack of pedestrians

FWIW, I grew up in a pretty small town and got hit by a car on my bike. Basically pulled out from an alley to cross a busy street (looked left, waited for car to pass on right, didn't re-check left) and and got t-boned by a guy who just made a high turn onto the road. My bike wrapped around the bumper and I had to carry it home, but miraculously I jumped off and didn't even fall to the ground. Life lesson, but not one I'd want someone to try learning.

Oh dude, the Mission is mostly just a No Go unless you Bike or Uber in. Motorcycle is really the only way to get around the City. Downtown you just accept that whatever car you take there is going to come with $30+ for Parking Lot fees. The Mission doesn't even have the Parking Garages, so you get to instead participate in the DeathRace 2022 for street parking. :laughing
