I hope I have this right. Is this Tammy and Eric from Team Pasta? If so, let's get together for a dirt ride some time.
 
SWEET! I am heading up that way for 3 days of dual-sport riding with Cycle World magazine and I can't WAIT! We start at Oakhurst and head to Sierra Summit resort and then back down. I know a few guys that did that trail last year, one came back with a huge contusion on his side. Seems he went over the bars and landed on a boulder. It got him right between the front and back of his chest protector.

I'll be on a XR650L (with full knobbies at least) so I don't think I'll be attempting that trail. Thanks for the pics though, they got me psyched!
 
Although Cycle World's dirt editor Ryan Dudek did it on a 650L. I can ride, just not THAT good. Picture this: a 650L being launched off a 10ft granite drop-off up at that lake. Broken spokes galore!

Holy Cow! A blast from the past! Yes, that was me and Eric on that ride! How ya doing, Chuck? Are you still running a team?
I'm guessing not if you've got the time and money to actually ride a dirt bike:laughing It's practically free compared to roadracing.

Eric only likes to ride on the street on his plated WR these days, but I'm still an every day commuter on a street bike. No more roadracing...not since `92! I'm guessing we haven't seen you in 15 years or so! Ever do the Wednesday Night Ride anymore?
We still see the Petro Brothers every now and again, Nick is riding a Husky 450SMR supermoto on the street now and he thinks he's kinda fast...you ought to go kick his butt just for fun:laughing

This was going down Thompson Hill, one gnarly piece of real estate.

The trail is lots of fun, but I know I wouldn't want to do it on an XR650L, that's for sure!

That area up there is perfect for dual-sporting. I've gone on a few DS rides there that were tons of fun, especially if you consider riding my SV650 up to Bald Mt a DS ride ;) Will you be going out to Mono Hot Springs? The road is paved somewhat, but it's the closest thing to a trail that a paved road can offer. Very tight and bumpy and sandy and highly scenic.

So what kind of ride is this? Invitation only? Gnarly? Charity ride?
What's the scoop? Whatever kind of ride it is, you're going to have a blast! Be prepared for any kind of weather. It was 31 when we got up the morning we did the Dusy last Sunday, but Friday and some of Saturday looked like it could storm any minute. They got snow up there the weekend prior.

It's an motorcycle industry thing by invite only. Our company advertizes in Cycle World so they have a yearly ride to thank their customers and industry people.

10 days in Moab?? Hell yeah, that's great stuff! We usually go for a few weeks in April, but we spend more of our time a little west of there in the San Rafael Swell area. It's a ton o' fun!

Oh yeah, there were 3 cameras pointed at me at that point. I guess you could say I folded under the harsh glare of the paparazzi. There's a whole sequence of me coming down Thompson Hill. I stayed at the top with my camera, Eric went to the bottom with his, and we took photos of Dan and Steve going down. I was the last one down and they all took photos of me, knowing full-well I was the most likely suspect to provide comic relief. I did not disappoint.

I LOVE that tire...an IRC TrialsWinner trials tire. It's perfect for rocks and gnarly stuff...perfect for just about anything but deep snow and slimy clay mud. It's gotten to the point where I feel as though I'm at a distinct disadvantage on a knobby. Wherever there is nasty technical terrain, roots, rocks, creek crossings and the like, that trials tire picks up where my skill leaves off and makes me feel like an enduro hero. I LOVE that tire. I've been running them for years, but it seems like the secret is out now.
