I have a 1 piece leather racing suit, but I don't like the color. I've been seeing places online that dye leather, but I have no idea how it would turn out. Anybody have any experience with this? Let me know what you think please.

Depends. Vanson and some others will accept a suit back for dyeing ( usually painting not dyeing) afaik most leather is not dyed, even black has a applied finish. And yes, a good shop will make a suit look almost like new.

You are better off getting paint for leathers. I painted a few panels on my Spidi Hook and it came it great.

i saw you online and was going to say hi but this works

what?

I've got some black leather Vansons, and I would be stoked if I could paint them... or the pants, at least. What kind of paint can/should I use for this? Is there a good how-to site? It'd be great if I could just paint-on a few accents.

Thanks for any helpful advice!

Peace!

The bottle I have is by Leatheraid and it's called Color Restorer.
It also had a website which was www.leatheraid.com but the
url doesn't seem to work.

Keep in mind that I only painted "panels" on my suit and not the whole suit.

Actually, many leathers are dyed! Whether the leather is dyed or painted depends on the color and the quality of the product. If the leather is the same color on both the front and the back, that typically means it was dyed. If the color is only on one side, that's usually "paint". In general, a dyed leather is a higher-quality product because the color goes all the way through the piece. Unfortunately, for metallic colors and, I believe, some neon colors dyes aren't available. Of course, there may be a surface finish involved as well,

FWIW, my experience with leather "paint" is that it will quickly rub off any surface that regularly has contact with the bike. In my opinion, it's probably not worth the effort...

I was just looking to transform the purple into black to match my helmet. I'll research some more on dyes for leather and let all know what I come up with. Thanks for all the input.
