Hey Vintage Cafe,

Anyone planning on riding their vintage bike this Sunday morning, 4/20, up Mt Tam to watch the Sunrise?

Guess the Easter Sunday Sunrise Ride was once more of a vintage ride ... Still usually see a few cool old bikes in the parking lot ...

This traditional ride is not on the SFMC's official ride calendar this season, so I'm not sure if our clubhouse will be open at 4am, the way we've done the last few years ... and I've not heard if the gates will be open ...

Anyway, I'm giving Easter Sunday Sunrise a shot this season,
unless it's raining ... :laughing

be cool to say 'hey' to fellow VC people ... :ride

We're going to meet at the DNA Lounge on 11th Street at 4:20 am,
drink some coffee and head over ...

Sunrise is about 6:30am ... We like to get to the top around 6am so
we have some time to get to the top ...

I try to call show-up-or-don't style rides ... they always seem to
come together ... :party

Rich came by the clubhouse tonight and said all
the Mad Dog crew will be at the DNA at 4am ...

the near-annual iffiness of this non-event often made the ride up from SJ a gamble,
yet attendance always proved to be an 'up', especially once sunlight's available

breakfast with the right crew afterwards & rarely-ridden roads = win!
 
Hi everyone,

I need to preface this post by stating that I am not a motorcycle rider and just registered on this forum to post on the topic of the yearly Mt Tam Easter Ride. I do not intend to spam your forums, just post my concerns this one time.

I am a resident on the Panoramic Hwy leading up to Mt Tam. Every Easter (the holiest of christian holidays and a very family-oriented day) we are all blasted awake at 5 am by hordes of extremely loud motorcycles racing past our house. I have watched this transpire each year and many of the riders are traveling at extremely unsafe speeds, along a very dangerous highway.

Along with being appalled at the needless noise and speed I am moreover concerned for the safety of families, kids, and pets along the Panoramic Hwy, particularly when your forums make explicit reference to "420" on the top of the mountain prior to riding back down.

As a resident and head of my family I would like to respectfully ask if you could please refrain from excessive speed/noise until you pass the MT Home Inn, after that point there are no more residences until the top of the mountain, so by all means have fun. Prior to the Mt Home Inn you are basically riding through a neighborhood full of kids and animals (and people trying to sleep in on a holiday). Better yet would be for the motorcycles to take the Highway 1 route up to Mt. Tam and avoid the Panoramic Highway altogether.

This post made me chuckle. Especially the part about Panoramic being dangerous then the recommendation to use Highway 1. <sarcasm>Thanks for your concern.</sarcasm> I mean that's what it is when you tell people to not use a road because it's dangerous then recommend a road that has many more fatal accidents.

I understand your sarcasm as I am crashing your forum, but in case you missed my point I was not referring to the danger posed to the riders of the bikes (I assume you can look after yourselves) I was referring to the potential danger posed to pedestrians, pets, kids hunting for Easter eggs etc.

Seeing as Highway 1 has far fewer residences and potential for accidents with bystanders it seems like a logical solution to me. It is also a more scenic route.

Or is Highway 1 too scary for you?

Thanks for your note! I always encourage and try to ride reasonable speeds in residential areas. Sorry about the noise! But it is a unique and historic event.

Thank you for a reasonable response. All I ask is for a bit of consideration for those of us who live on the mountain. Most of us live here for the peace and quiet. As I mentioned previously, it would be greatly appreciated if riders could keep their speed and noise in check until past the residential areas.

Enjoy your ride and enjoy Mt Tam, it is a wonderful place.

I would like to point out that the group ride up to the summit has been unorganized and very slow every time I've made it. I know it sounds like "racing" from your bedroom and must be very obnoxious, but I doubt there's a way for 100-300 motorcycles to go past your house quietly no matter how slowly they ride.

I understand your point, and thank you for your reply. I love some good engine noise myself (nothing beats a F-16 on full afterburner, a Formula 1 V8 from last year, or a P-51) but please understand that 5:30 am on Easter is not the best time. When folks go to a race or airshow they expect noise. Having my kids cry and dog bark at 5:30 am on Easter because of 300 motorcycles is less than ideal...

I realize that I have no traction on this forum but I wanted to kindly ask for consideration of the folks who live on Mt. Tam and recommend the Highway 1 - Stinson Beach - Summit route. I'm just trying to raise awareness.

Mt.TamResident, thank you for taking the time to register and express your concerns.

I know it's a stretch, but is there anyway that you and your family could be convinced to set the alarm and wave to the ride as it goes by?

I don't know a single motorcyclist who wouldn't take the time to give a big smile and a wave to a child.

I bet one or two of us could even be convinced to bring an Easter Offering to you and your family.

I used to live on highway 1 and i just love it that every Sunday morning these guys give out the best wake-up alarm clock. Rev on, boys and girls!

Dear mt. Tam resident,

You are a big fat hypocrite! What about hot rod cars, what about loud Porsches, what about snot faced teens zipping by on their WRXes, what about big trucks going by on deliveries, what about bicyclists yakking by? If it's too loud for you, MOVE!!! I live in the fucking city and it's loud! That's the way it is.

We, bikers, are gonna zip by fast and loud whenever we want.

Jeez, you r a dweeb!
