I have been spoiled in the past, I only used Sharkskinz Carbon Fiber or AK Composites

But...times are tough, and if I wanna be able to do some trackdays this upcoming season or get some racing in i got to maintain a much smaller budget.

that said...
#1 has anyone used any of these el-cheapo race bodywork sets on ebay?
#2 which seller?
#3 how was the fitment?
#4 durability?
#5 have you used any of the premium stuff b4 like sharkskinz or ak?

tromex seems to be a really good seller on ebay. theyre inexpensive, have good fitment and hold up damn well in a crash for being cheap

i can't find him...just looked in community it's just some guy with 2 on his feedback lol

I have found that a lot of the ebay stuff fits ok but durability is awful. I have yet to have anyone bring me a set off ebay that was good. I recommend Joe Machado (jdmbikes) from Santa Rosa the glass and resin he uses is fantastic probably the most durable I've used including sharkskins. Fitment is excellent. The flaws in his stuff are usually the annoying pin holes and I've seen them a little wavy but as for fitment and durability they are top notch. Sharkskins are the best but these truly match sharkskins in form and function. Your paint guy won't be as happy but it's far better than the EBAY stuff. Get your BARF discount and they are yours new for $450. PM me if you are interested and I'll be sure to get you going the right direction. He really stands by his stuff and he's local so you get a chance to see what you're getting. :thumbup:thumbup If you'd like some pictures check out the photo gallery in www.thecleanconcept.net most of those bikes have Joes race bodys.

Yes, buy from him. The stuff is QUALITY!

There's a new guy in town, google Optimal Racing Bodywork. Looks like a full set will run under $400 shipped. They seem to the same guys where E-racing left off, but with new molds and new flex resin.

Yes but they currently do not have a full inventory of plastics so depending on what you're looking for you may have to hold off for a few months.

Are there any definitive logic for helping decide whether to go with plastic or fiberglass ?

are the plastic ones just as repairable as the fiberglass ?

to put it short yes and no. fiberglass is inexpensive and very easy to repair. Plastic is harder to repair and when crashed usually cracks or shatters. However it all depends on the quality of the glass/plastic. good plastic and making molds for that is very expensive and probably still doesn't have the qualitys of good fiberglass. If you buy a good set of fiberglass bodywork it will cost you much less and be far more durable in my opinion.

With all of this being said if you have any kind of violent crash it won't matter anyways nothing will hold up. If it were the street plastic looks better when painted usually. Fiberglass usually has a lot of flaws in it. Look at cars with fiberglass body kits.....you can usually see quite a bit of difference.

oh shit....i should have clarified myself

when i said "RACE PLASTICS" i didn't literally mean ABS Race stuff, I meant aftermarket race bodywork in general

carbon fiber, fiberglass or abs

but thanks for the replies guys

oh and in my experience its all down to the painter and how he preps the bodywork and definitely how he finishes it off

I usually paint my stuff to break the monotony of grey and beige in the field - but i definitely don't want an extra 20 lbs of primer to be lugging around
