electric bikes...badass or bust?

less than 100 miles then you must stop for three hrs. :rofl

even the harley that was with us yesterday could go 150 miles before stopping for fuel. and that stop was only for 5 mins. except for the stop to fix it.:wow

as a driver and sometime in the past a bicycle rider, noise is required to come from motors. if not there will be other issues then just not being seen.

but for these way over priced toys for the rich, got to get the miles per charge up to 200 miles and a FULL charge in less than 30 min. and sell them under $9 grand.

.

i did warn them that i'd be honest. haha! and honestly, i really want one now.

There's something about the electric vehicles that's just freakin' cool! I was on the market for one to get in the HOV lane and stop moto commuting. I was just looking at it as another type of transportantion. After test driving, little did I know that my Spark EV would be so much freakin' fun to drive too! 400lbs or torque and 120hp in a 2500lbs car and all that toque available from 0rpm/mph! :teeth Plus the fact that the lease, the insurance and operating costs are less than the gas and insurance on my paid for truck.

I did get to do that focus group a few years back for these bikes and the reason I mention all that is there are a SHITLOADs of incentives to buy electric that will bring that $18k price down considerably. In the case of my Spark, $2500 from the state and $7500 from the fed. I leased mine since the tech changing too fast and Tesla is expected to release their $30-40k version in 2015 so I don't see the $7500. All said and done, IIRC the electric will be down around $12k with the incentives and the cheaper operating cost really will surprise you. My spark has a 7500 mile maintenance schedule and on that list is "inspect brake fluid and rotate tires". :laughing

Why? Because of actual desire, or because of government regulations? Electric bikes are over a hundred years old. What happens in these magic ten years to change the bike world?

Because they'll stop being shit and start performing better than gas-powered bikes for far cheaper with less moving parts, no gears and no noise.

The reasons that electric bikes aren't already dominating the sport market is because 1) they're new and people are slow to adopt 2) still way too expensive 3) mechanically imperfect 4) battery tech hasn't yet advanced to the point where there can be a series of small, light batteries that hold a decent charge.

Once those hurdles are overcome electric bikes will take the lead due to their insane torque, cheap maintenance, lack of gears and lack of noise. They'll be huge in racing, just wait.

So get one! :thumbup :ride

You'll let me ride it, yeah? :laughing

I think I just might get one. :)
Do it. Afterall, the gas is never greener on the other rides.:ride:teeth

Actually if I were to come up with a catch phrase I'd just rip off a simple line from Walt Disney...Brammo..."Move Forward."
Now if only it were worth, oh, $18,000 plus tax and doc fees:laughing

Why are we calling these things motorcycles? I would call them scooters. I will buy one when there is a clutch.

Werd. For a while, it seemed like tesla was going under. I'm glad it's catching on.

I, too.
Nichola Tesla kinda got the short end during his life and deserved so much more credit for his amazing achievements; These cutting edge, fast sleek cars deserve their kudos and would certainly put a smile on tesla's face..:thumbup

I went to that market study dealie in Alameda a fews years back. Was totally impressed with the electric bike. LOVED it. Can only imagine how much better these are.

Something really cool about the swoosh sound they make and it's actually quite awesome to hear precisely what the tires are doing. Would love to own one of these!

Also, it's quite cool to see com3 posting on barf again!
