I am looking for a source where I can purchase ethanol free fuel preferably in the bay area within a hour drive of San Jose

Better question, how many gallons of it?

I remember seeing straight unleaded gallon cans next to generators in the big box hardware/ farm supply stores in Ca.
Out of Ca. easy, from straight unleaded up to 100 oct. race fuel @ local pumps

Sunol Super Stop used to have some 100 octane Torco race fuel that was ethanol free. I believe they still sell Torco but haven't stopped there in a while to see what they have at the pumps.

Yesterday I was going to take the Bandit out and do a 300 mile ride but apparently there is a carb issue.

I was having some intermittent issues before which I used Seafoam with fresh gas and seemed to solve the problem after riding it multiple times

Afterwards changed the plugs and filter and it ran fine up until yesterday - once off the choke it would stop running

I talked with a shop and they suggested giving it another try with the cleaner and ethanol free gas after draining the gas in the tank and float bowls

So I am willing to give it a try and if it works then great otherwise it will be a carb cleaning job by the shop and that was not going to be cheap

Can race fuel be used in a bike?

Typically yes.

Just don’t get hooked on it. :teeth

I used it to fill my tank when I had to store my bike for about 9 months. It ran fine with it afterwards. I know a few people who run race fuels periodically for street use. I wouldn't bother but if you want zero ethanol it may be one of the only options.

There is a station in 84 and one on 680 with race gas. Or was.

Suburban 84 not far off 101. 76 I believe.

100 octane unleaded at the pump. Leaded race gas out of the barrel. I would think 100 oct has no corn bits.

Both gas stations in town sell it. I'm 7 hours away tho so....

practically speaking it isn't available in CA. unless you happennto live in the neighborhood of the aforementioned locatuins it's just not realistic.

small quantities are available at any hardware/home improvement store. i find that the 1 quart containers bought in the "contractor discount" quantity (6 at home depot) are the best deal being cheaper per vol than the gallon container. even so, you're in the $16/gal neighborhood and that isn't sustainable personally

for my experience on carb'd bike, running the carbs dry before before parking it will prevent the problems. sustained contact (i.e. parked overnight) with the ethanol swells and degrades the rubber parts, so shuttting off the petcock and letting as much gas get pulled out of the bowls as possible is a good preventive measure. if you have a vacuum petcock i don't know what to tell you unfortunately

Granted is has been about 10 years but check the gas stations on East Dunne and Monterey in Morgan Hill. They used to sell non-ethanol for boats/jet-skis that used Anderson Reservoir as it was a non-ethanol use water way.

Google search says 76 station on Monterey/East Dunne still sells it but would call and confirm first. Also shows a couple other places with it in MH.

I heard some engineer guy telling me that Ethanol can be separated by adding a small amount of water to a jug, once settled the ethanol rises to the top of the water... simply suck out the ethanol and water at the top...

this is merely "hear-say"!

Umm water settles to the bottom of a tank of fuel, not the top.
Question. Does Chevron have ethanol in it ? I always check the pump but nowhere do I see any stickers saying the percentage of ethanol they used. I thought that it has to posted on the pump by law.

Mad

Aside from some power issues if I let the gas get old I haven't had any really problems running ethanol tainted gas in my DRZ. I do may sure to shut of the petcock and run the carb dry before I park it, and if it has been sitting for a bit I slosh the gas around in the tank to ensure I'm not filling the float bowl with water when I fire it up. It usually runs rough for a few miles but an italian tune up and some fresh gas to dilute to the old gas usually does the trick.

other than the up/down being incorrect as maddevil pointed out yes it can be done. However, alcohol increases the octane rating, so by removing it you're left with an unknown grade of fuel, as well as the alcohol/water goo to dispose of.

it's something i might do to use pump gas in my lawnmower because it'll run on fairly low octane gas but i would be leery of trying it in anything else.
