Excel gurus? Image handling...

At work I use Excel a lot for reports that have some text on the left and associated photos on the right. As you know, Excel isn't the best at dealing with photos. We usually shrink them down to fit in rows, and then in order to view them in detail they need to be stretched back out again.

It would be nice if the images could be inserted as more like 300x300 pixel thumbnails and then if I clicked on it, they would expand into windows photo viewer or something.

Automating the insertion of said images so it was always consistent would be a big plus. Maybe by way of a button in excel... Select a cell, insert image (navigate to image), it puts a thumbnail that can then be clicked on and opened directly.

How would I even start with this? Any other better ideas for doing it?
 
Alternatively, you could put them in a web folder and hyper-link the thumbnail to the larger picture. It would bring up a browser window but aside from that accomplish what you're trying in the quickest manner. Assuming you have a website to post them on.
 
Insert menu. Pick insert object. Create from file tab. Check the box that says display as icon.
