i had to do an oil change yesterday and i couldnt take my oil filters out!!! (2002 honda cbr F4i)
i think the guy who owned this bike before tight it too much. i had full grip of filter and couldnt take it out, i though i was hella weak so i told my friends to try it and ..... they couldnt do it. wtf!!! i had to pull in new oil but kept used filter!! (i still got about 500 miles till next oil change).

is there any tool i can use?? the filter is honda oem filter (i was thinking mayb i can use little plastic cap thing yi, and use wrench)

left loose, right tight......right?:x

-my engine was cold.(does it matter?)

please help!!!!!

I have a huge pair of channel locks that takes right off. Lemme know if you dont get it off by next weekend and I'll help.

You can also get a filter socket that uses a 3/8" drive wrench for something like $6 at Pep Boys or Autozone. No need for the Honda one, which is in the $30 range, though it's a nice tool.

Note that Honda actually puts torque specs on oil filters -- 7 lbs-ft on most, but 20 lbs-ft :wow on my 2002 VFR. If the previous owner/shop actually used a torque wrench, there's no chance you can get it off with yer bare hands.

I *think* the oil filter adapter threads are steel, and so is the oil filter itself, so hot or cold shouldn't matter. Though hot oil is somewhere in the 250 degree range -- instant 2nd degree burns or worse if you're not careful.

Ive done a fair number of Oil changes and i always have a hard time with the Honda F4I.... Seems almost like it shrinks as it gets worn ..
I also have the manufactures oil filter wrench ,, funny thing is it fits nice on new filters but when i go to remove the old one ..its too big..

Best thing and will save you tons of headaches and some skin ....use the big channel locks from Mort .... comes off nice and easy .....

Just changed my oil for the F4i yesterday. The torque spec for the oil drain bolt is 22 lbf-ft.

I have the oil filter wrench (loosening thingy; not really a wrench, but a spring-loaded mechanism that attaches to a 3/8" wrench) that you can borrow. Where are you located? I'm in N. San Jose.

a wide cloth (non-stretchy) strap, ~3" wide, and a plier works too. :)

Wrap the strap around the oil filter, make sure the area is clean so it doesn't slip.
Take a plier/whatever to hold the two ends together, twist the clamp counterclockwise so that the strap wraps around the clamp.

Those rubbery oil filter wrenches that I see at Kragens seem promising too. Anyone ever use them before?

Once you get the bugger off, I've been a devout convertee to K&N oil filters. They have a nice 17mm bolt on the end of the filter, so it's real easy to get at with a wrench for future oil changes.

Good luck on this one tho.
