I just bought an f4i, but it has been lowered. It looks like the forks have been slid up the triple clamp.

Are there any good "how to's" to return the forks back to stock height?

I have a pitbull triple tree stand, that should be all I need for the front right?

Also, I can't tell if the rear has been lowered or not. Is there anyway to confirm if the rear has been lowered? The link appears to be stock, but I don't know for sure. I'll upload a picture when I get home.

Links to "how to's" would be great! I can't seem to find any!

Thank you in advance for your help!

F4i Service Manual: http://www.gofastvideo.com/video/379/Honda-CBR-600-F4i-Shop-Manual

  • Put it up on the rear stand, then the front stand.
  • Remove front brakes.
  • Remove front wheel. (I'm sure you could do it with the wheel on but it would be harder to make the small adjustments)
  • Best to do the next part one leg at a time.
  • Remove Clipons.
  • Loosen lower triple bolts.
  • Loosen upper triple bolts.
  • Drop the forks to 33mm (1.3in) from the upper surface of the top triple to the fork tube end.
  • Tighten the upper triple bolts.
  • Do the other side and reverse for installation.

For the rear it would be the linkage unless the entire(front and rear) lowering job was done internally. Seat height should be 31.9"

I've read of raising the rear by shimming the top of the rear shock mount.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I just looked at the bike again and it's a vortex dog bone that they replaced.

How hard is it to replace the vortex dog bone with the OEM?

I read somewhere to use a jack stand to jack up the bike where the oil drain plug is while the bike is on its rear stand.

What do you guys think?

Not too hard to do. If you do jack it, it isn't ideal to jack from under the headers but its doable. Either way, use a piece of wood or a folded up moving blanket between the cases and the jack so you don't bust a hole in anything.

hang the bike from your garage rafters. u cant have the rear stand supporting weight and its way easier than jack-stands.

also, u dont need to remove the front wheel or anything to adjust the fork height. u should be able to fit a wrench to loosen and tighten the clamps underneath the bodywork, but itll be easier if u removed it. those ram-air ducts are def in the way.

I live in an apt so no way to hang the bike up : (

I got the jacking the bike up idea from

http://cbrforum.com/forum/f4i-main-forum-11/replace-dogbone-f4i-120233/

he says he does it by a bolt under the bike.

Do you think he mans the drain plug?

Also, he doesnt really say if he uses a floor jack.

I was thinking about just using my car jack. It looks like this

Yikes - I wouldn't want to support the bike from underneath.

I've used a ladder a few times. Put the bike up on the stand, throw a tie down or two from the ladder to the frame.

In these pics I was replacing the head bearings, I had used only one tie down, running up and over the top of the ladder.

Should I tie it to the subframe for my case?

What's that purple towel for?

I'm thinking about just using some jack stands underneath the rearsets.

Can anyone think of any reason why not too?

i kinda assumed u had stock rearsets w/ folding pegs? if u have aftermarket ones that are solid mount and a reputable brand, go for it. i do it all the time w/ my Woodcraft and Sato rearsets.

depending on how tall your jackstands are, u may need to remove the rear tire to let the rear suspension hang free.

Ahhh your right, I have the folding ones!

I guess I have to do the A ladder technique.

Does anyone know the torque specs for the dog bone lowering link? I can't seem to find it in the manual!!
