Facebook (lack of) Privacy ? !

I've always suspected these congressional "hearings" are nothing more than opportunities for politicians to act tough in front of their voters, while not actually taking any action. Nothing will happen from this, other than promises by Mr T-shirt to "do better".

Yeah, grandstanding while the same people signed away everyone’s privacy just months earlier

i kind of lost my place in the thread

did anyone mention MeWe? does anyone use it? opinions?

Dude just wasn't comfortable with being on the hot seat, probably popped a Xanax before entering the room.
If it were me and feeing the heat I'd just keep saying to myself "I've got $77B more in the bank than any of these puffed up bitches" :twofinger

Not only that, but it was obvious most of those senators had no clue about social media. One from Alabama actually asked Zuk how FB can remain free. :laughing Zuk replied, Sir we run ads :laughing

Bunch of old farts who have aids to everything for them don't know about technology? Shocking!

Looks like he nailed him to the wall on the decision not to inform the users 25 months ago, he was doing the CEO BS of claiming not to know of that decision, which IMHO is total horseshit, so she boxed him in where he could continue down that line but have to admit that it was a reflection of poor leadership in the company.

Everybody knows that a decision like that has to be made at the top, that there is no way that a CEO wouldn't be aware of those circumstances, but the strategy of every CEO in a position like that is to deny, deny, deny.

So he gets up there and says - With hindsight, yes, we should have done more to protect our users but we didn't know this would happen.

Really? Cause apparently somebody did.

I never made a FB acct (or Google, etc.) and people told me I was paranoid and/or thought that made me some kind of idiot, etc. For all those people - You can all go zuck yourselves. :thumbup

Got this email today from Google.

You can set controls for how long they retain certain data due to upcoming GDPR rules.

*********

Dear Google Analytics Administrator,

Over the past year we've shared how we are preparing to meet the requirements of the GDPR, the new data protection law coming into force on May 25, 2018. Today we are sharing more about important product changes that may impact your Google Analytics data, and other updates in preparation for the GDPR. This e-mail requires your attention and action even if your users are not based in the European Economic Area (EEA).

Product Updates
Today we introduced granular data retention controls that allow you to manage how long your user and event data is held on our servers. Starting May 25, 2018, user and event data will be retained according to these settings; Google Analytics will automatically delete user and event data that is older than the retention period you select. Note that these settings will not affect reports based on aggregated data.

Action: Please review these data retention settings and modify as needed.
Before May 25, we will also introduce a new user deletion tool that allows you to manage the deletion of all data associated with an individual user (e.g. site visitor) from your Google Analytics and/or Analytics 360 properties.

Interesting.

Delete or off load??

Zuckerman's appearance before congress was evasive at times. At least he did not forget a bunch of shit.

The point is grandstanding. Here we have the politicians who are part of the largest survellience system ever devised and they are asking someone else about privacy.

I am not offering support for Zucks nor FB but if they really wanted to ask questions, why not have the "experts" at the NSA, FBI and some other commands doing the asking? At least then it would all be in closed session and everyone could claim victory.

Except those zucked of course.

Anyone know the difference between the keyboards FB employees use and all other keyboards?

No delete key.

Only the most important point, he never admitted (that I saw) that he was party to the decision to not inform the users about Cambridge Analytics acquiring and misusing their data.

So let me get this straight. You post your whatever on the internet, and you think it’s private.:rofl

Oh shit! :laughing

Don't think it is real though. :p
