Favorite international riding destinations?

personally, I have had some of my best rides around the alps. Did a "ride around switzerland" tour a few years back...on the outside (meaning germany, france, italy, and austria). dolomites are awesome. Great roads, and beautiful.

Switzerland is "awful" because the police take themselves too seriously. in France and Italy, no one bothers motorcycles...they don't mind if you split (help you actually) and don't mind if you speed. Of course, switzerland is beautiful with great roads...but i like to go faster than 50 kph.

2019, I'm going to ride down to sicily on the italian side and back up on the croatian side...will let you know...!

I know this will upset some folks, but I agree with this. Switzerland is beautiful, but Italy and France are far more fun.

+1. Speed cameras :(

I've ridden in about a dozen countries, and my favorite riding so far has been in the French Alps, however late October would be pushing it. My friend, Peter is a tour guide with a Dutch touring company, and he's ridden all over with them. Peter swears that the best riding in Europe is in Spain (I haven't ridden there yet), and there are lots of parts of Spain that would have great riding in late October.

Yeah. Peter pointed me to a great place to stay in the Pyrenees. Unfortunately they seem to have closed down. IMT Bike moto rental out of Barcelona was awesome as were the roads (we stayed a few days on the north end)

Riders from other countries want to ride the California coast.

Ended up on a 2ish week ride with Mellowtonin in Portugal/Spain/Sardinia. The riding out there was great! And the off road riding in Portugal with a few crazy Brits was pretty amazing too haha. We'll probably do a ride report at some point.

Proof

Pics or it didn’t happen:twofinger

We've got a few BARF salute pictures along the way :twofinger

We'll post up a ride report with more pictures eventually :thumbup

Look forward to seeing an awesome journey.

Sure it's "North America" but there are some beautiful roads and beautiful scenery in Baja Mexico. Valle De Guadalupe is the Napa/Sonoma of Mexico, really nice wine country. Until I went myself, I never would of known!

October? That's springtime in Australia.

:ride

The guys from 44 Teeth YouTube channel recently posted a video where one of them got a speeding ticket in Switzerland. Cost 4000 Swiss francs which is pretty much equal to US$4K. I won't be doing any motorcycle touring through Switzerland.

Saw the same and thought the same.

I've been to Switzerland before, but was only there for a few hours. Glad I didn't get pinched, $4k for speeding is abhorrent.

Yikes! Luckily the Alps span a few other countries that are more lax in speed enforcement.

Scotland.
Wales.

Ignore England, it's full of English people.

Most of us speak English better than we speak Welsh. And the ubiquitous speed cameras in Wales have 0-tolerance, unlike their English counterparts.

There are awesome roads in South Wales though. Awesome narrow roads.

Small highjack and some information.

I did a Swiss Alps tour Sept 2017. Rented an RT in Basel CH as my daughter lives there. Did all the route and hotels myself, it can be done.

The wife, I and 2 other couples are planning a trip in Sept 2019. Want to use a tour company this time. Have been looking and found the following sights for information.

I am still looking at reviews of the tour companies, hope some of the links will help you.

Tuono Joice & I swear by Edelweiss [haven't tried any other tour cos] -
the key words are: Alps & Pyrenees [Austria/Germany/Italy/France/Spain] are all wunnerful

Sw'land is infamous for their achingly lo speed limits & many cameras - no go

UK was lotsa fun, too - especially mid-to-north areas

Vietnam. South Africa.

Those are my only 2 thus far (unless you count Alaska :laughing )
Highly recommend both.

Also, Hi Alex! Hope the wee is still treating you well.

I traveled thu Romania a few years ago, and the entire time going thru the mountains outside of Sibiu where they have the Red Bull Romainiacs I just kept thinking I gotta come back on 2 wheels.
