Went in to Circuit City in Union City, and the guy had no idea what I was talking about :wtf. Had to go to a computer to check online, kept telling me he didn't think it released today.

Dude... been looking forward to this day for eva!! I know it released today. Finally saw another dude carrying it, and had him point it out for me. They had it hid in the back...

Now I just have to survive at work for 3 more hours till I can go home and watch it.

My Next Movie on Blu-Ray: HEAT

You must be joking, right? Transformers is the best special effects movie ever. This is the movie that Blu-Ray was made for. The audio alone is awesome. I can't wait to feel the floor vibrate when Optimus Prime walks around. Though, I do wish they would have put the 7.1 TRUEHD audio tracks in, instead of the 5.1, it will still be the best movie I have seen on BR.

Are you the same dude that waits in line several weeks in advance for a PS360?

hahaha... nah, though I did think about it. I got my 360 and PS3 off the shelf. Though, I did buy the wii on eBay :thumbdown

is blu ray that much better.... ive never watched anything...

yeah, it's that much better than DVD. Audio is uncompressed, and loss-less, so if you are in to surround sound, you can't beat it. the games are bad-ass too. MotorStorm is still the best all-around graphics game, but COD4 is the best game-play game.

But then, if you believe the hype, skip blu-ray and just wait to download movies to your computer and watch it on your tv... There will always be a next best thing.

at 1080p yes it is huge difference. I don't know about the sound because I just play the sound through my tv speakers

Sweet. I didn't think much of Transformers as a movie (maybe expected too much, as a HUGE fan of the cartoon), but still, I'm sure it will be sweet to watch.

No, I am not joking. The movie effectively destroyed the sanctity of the Transformers legacy for many people.

I have a room wired for 8.1, but currently running max of 7.1. The sound separation is remarkable, and clearly noticeable. For instance, if there is a conversation happening in front of the camera, you will hear it through the center channel, while at the same time you can hear the background chatter in the rear.

While, if it were just playing through the tv speakers, all the sound would have to be played from the front, or dropped entirely.

If you don't have an HD tv, don't get blu-ray. but if your tv will do at least 1080i, it's worth it, though 1080p is the best.

I'M COMING OVER AFTER SOCCER PRACTICE TOMORROW AND WE'RE WATCHING THIS.

That depends entirely on your home setup. For most people, No.

Steve

This. People with home theater in a box setups and just most run of the mill speaker setups talking about needing uncompressed audio is quite funny. Not saying the OP falls into this catergory, just saying in general.

As for video, get a high end big screen first and get it calibrated. Then worry about judging picutre quality.......

The OP fucking built himself a man-room in the backyard. It's only purpose is to house the hugescreen TV and surround sound for being a complete dork and watching movies, football, and video games.

Oh, he's also a gigantic nerd, so he probably calculated the exact size of the room and factored in the speaker placement to work best.

Yeah, I definitely don't have a "box setup". I don't have any satellite speakers either. I have Samsung 62" DLP tv, Sony 8.1 1000watt av receiver, 2 Sony Floor speakers that have 8" Subs, separate 10" powered sub, and 2 6" bookshelves for the sides, 2 6" rear-channel speakers, plus front center channel speaker. Not currently using the rear center-channel, as there really isn't any 8.1 channel movies out. I could drop it down to 6.1 and use the second channel (2.0) for powering sound into another room, but don't have a desire to.

Edit:
Yeah, I admit my inner :nerd. When I built the room, I put in extra-thick insulation plus sound dampner. So I could turn it up late at night, and not rock the neighbors. I pre-wired the room, and added shut-out curtains, so it could be dark in the middle of the day. Plus, the wifey has added an apartment sized refridgerator fully stocked with 4 kinds of beer.

I have a standing invite to those that want to come over for Thursday night NFL opening, or of course, the now Wednesday night Transformers screening. lol :thumbup
