My GF bought tags and shared with me on my iPad associated to an email (no phone service) - it went fine.

We reset the AirTags by removing the battery a million times and reconnected to her phone. All good.

She shared her iPhone location with me and that works.

I have other airtag knockoffs that work and I shared them with her. All good.

She went to share the original AirTags with me in FindMy and the stupid thing says my email is not associated with an Apple account.

I check my Settings and I'm logged into my account with email. No typos.

When I share an AirTag, FindMy shows my contacts by phone number, not email. Can she share it to your ph#?

Messages has recently been defaulting contact cards to their email instead of their phone number. It has been messing up group chats for me.

Working before rarely matters when it comes to software bugs. There are running jokes about this in software development.

Is your iPad on the latest OS, or at least similar to her phone? Can she share a Note with your account? Have you tried sharing it from the FindMy app on MacOS?

She shared her iPhone location to my iPad just fine. We're both using the FindMy app. OS version is probably similar. She removed the tags from her app and I put them on mine, and then shared them with her. Gone now for a few weeks.

What is gone…

Your original issue seemed to be common back in iOS17. Some people found it was caused by having ignored AirTags - they kinda blocked the sharing of new ones. Others found that removing all sharing and retrying it worked. But that was 2-3yrs ago and you probably aren’t on that OS. Maybe your knockoff tags are causing conflicts on your Apple accounts.

You’ve made this situation quite complex, both with what you’ve tried and how you’ve typed details. It’s prob time to head to the Apple Store.
